Meet Kari Hall of Revive Counseling & Consulting, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Hall

Hi Kari , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi!
My name is Kari Hall. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the owner of Revive Counseling & Consulting, PLLC.
As a therapist, I am dedicated to being real with clients I work with, teaching them how to understand and use their physiology to heal trauma and navigate difficult life experiences like anxiety/panic attacks, depression, PTSD, complex trauma, complicated grief, and dissociation issues.

I have a very passionate take on how powerful, protective, and adaptable we are as humans, informed mainly by Somatic Psychology and EMDR Psychotherapy. I think it’s important to bring connection and understanding to our life experiences in order to make those connections in the body and actually create meaningful change. Our brain and body know how to heal themselves—they just need the right environment and support to do so.

I was born and raised in Glendale, Arizona, by my grandmother, who officially adopted me at 4 years old. Nobody is perfect, but my grandmother did her best to raise children who were not originally her responsibility while trying to raise and support her own children. My grandmother was also a foster parent and provided multiple children with shelter in times of need throughout the years. Growing up in this environment was complex, but it also allowed me to connect with others in pain and provide hope during dark times.

Aside from home life, I quite literally grew up on a softball field, which led me to play competitively throughout life and into college. I finished my psychology degree and 4th year of collegiate softball in Canton, Ohio in 2016.
…I know… attending Ohio for college after knowing nothing about winter outside of what we call “winter” here in Arizona. Yikes! Lol. Let’s just say that I adapted to the cold at some point, and in turn, this created a different perspective of how the brain and body functions to learn and adapt to different environments in life.

I later moved back to my home desert and began studying for my master’s degree in professional counseling at Grand Canyon University. After graduating in 2019, I went straight into clinical practice as a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC). Around this time, I was trained in EMDR Psychotherapy, which provided me with an evidence-based understanding of what I had always understood in some way through felt/lived experiences. And this was just the start. EMDR is what propelled me into what I do now as a Complex Trauma Therapist, EMDR Certified Therapist, Consultant, and AZBBHE Approved Supervisor.

One of my favorite mantras is, “Everything is figureoutable.” This mindset drew me into not only my clinical work but also my interest in creativity within the technology world. I now help other mental health professionals and business owners design/build websites, create online courses, and find ways to share their wisdom and message with the world.

As a member of Mental Health Matters Arizona, I had the honor of designing the coalition’s website. The website is a comprehensive guide to learning more about the mental health field overall, where to start when looking for mental health support and resources, and detailed information about a multitude of resources at every level of care in the state of Arizona.

My husband, a naturally creative and extraordinary human himself, has been a significant part of why I am where I am today. Not only is my husband my best friend and teammate in life, but he is also my business partner in the creative technology world, as he is an Artist who works in graphic design and tattooing. As a team, we have grown together and created a life that fosters joy, creativity, productivity, resiliency, and so much more. As introverts to the core, we enjoy spending our time in nature, with close friends and family, and with our two dogs, Jack-Jack and Kelso (like from That 70s Show-lol).

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One thing we can guarantee in life is challenges.

The road to where I’m at today has definitely been a complex one. Being raised by a single grandparent and finding my own survival through sports, all I focused on growing up was working to provide care and set a good example for my foster siblings and younger brother. (My brother, who is five years younger than me, was taken in at birth by my grandmother after he had miraculously survived being born prematurely and addicted to substances due to my mother’s addiction.) So, it was an environment that completely fostered the “Just be good and stay out of the way” narrative.

Many family members of mine have grappled with addiction to substances since before I was born. With that being said, my mother- who was incarcerated for most of my childhood- ended up passing away from an overdose in 2022. Around this time, my younger brother also began to fall even deeper into his battle with addiction, which consistently caused severe emotional disturbance and concern for his well-being and overall safety. Thankfully, my brother made it out of that life and now proudly has almost a year of sobriety under his belt.

In my professional career, I am immensely grateful for the opportunities that have allowed me to learn and grow. I’ve been fortunate to have professors who took a chance on me and offered me job opportunities, as well as the chance to collaborate closely with different practice owners and mental health experts whom I look up to in my career. I wouldn’t be where I am today without these opportunities.

In my opinion, the most effective way to make things easier is by always doing your own work.

Through doing my own work, I have been able to actually experience the true healing that I strive every day to help others find as well. It’s my mission to help others find a deep-rooted kind of healing and revive from the ashes of their traumas.

As you know, we’re big fans of Revive Counseling & Consulting, PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I own a private practice for counseling and consulting services, all services are provided by telehealth or virtual options. I am incredibly proud of owning a private practice and having the ability to work with the populations I know best. I am also grateful to have the opportunity to work with other professionals through consultations, supporting them through working with those who struggle with the impacts of complex trauma and maladaptive dissociative patterns.

As a complex trauma therapist, I am dedicated to being real with clients, teaching them how to understand and use their biology and physiology to heal trauma and navigate/take control of difficult life experiences like anxiety/panic attacks, depression, addictions, PTSD, complex trauma, complicated grief, and dissociation issues. I am best known for working with complex trauma and dissociation issues through parts work and EMDR Psychotherapy. EMDR (or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a completely holistic approach that is now one of the most studied and evidenced-based psychotherapies in the field at the moment. I like to say that EMDR accesses the natural healing structures in the brain to desensitize and reorganize painful life experiences.

I highly value and respect how powerful, protective, and adaptable we are as humans. I use often use Somatic Psychology, EMDR Psychotherapy, and IFS Therapy with clients. I have found that bringing connection and understanding to our life experiences is often what it takes in order to make those connections in the body and actually create meaningful change in the present.

On the side, I manage a web design business that works to be a space for anyone looking to create their vision into a reality.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I believe the most important lesson I’ve learned in my personal and professional journey is to approach everything with intention. This often entails having difficult conversations with ourselves and others. It’s crucial to be comfortable with the idea that we can’t please everyone, and if we try to live our lives that way, we risk losing our personal identity and sense of self. Through various life experiences and supporting others through theirs, I’ve realized how easy it is to revert to patterns formed in childhood or through traumatic events, which can hinder the development of a strong sense of self. However, by acting with intention and questioning our motives, we can uncover our values, goals, and overall purpose in life.
