Meet Karen Cummings of Radiant Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Cummings.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating with my degree in Marketing from ASU, I started in a marketing position with a local physical therapy company. In this position I observed a number of physician practices that were providing amazing services to their communities but struggling to survive due to lacking marketing resources for small businesses. I realized that with my experience and the systems and tools I’d been putting in place at the company I was with, I could help these businesses thrive. From this thought, my first agency was born.

Since then we’ve evolved into a digital marketing agency providing inbound marketing services for local startups and small businesses in the health & wellness, travel & adventure, SaaS and professional service industries.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with most small businesses and startups, there have been challenges along the way. The biggest challenges I faced stemmed from my first agency partnership. After years of committing to making it work, we realized we were destined for different things. So, after nearly five years in business together, we decided to take separate routes and I basically ended up starting over with my agency.

At the time, what seemed like a nearly unsurmountable obstacle turned into the biggest blessing and best opportunity I could have asked for. Starting over gave me the chance to really evaluate where I’d been, what went wrong, and where I wanted to go. I was able to realign with my values, build a team that deeply believed in those values and acquire clients that we were excited to work with – creating relationships and partnerships in which we were able to make a significant impact.

A few lessons learned from these struggles – clearly define team member roles within your business, never stray from your values and always pay close attention to your finances!

Our inbound marketing agency is comprised of a small but mighty virtual team committed to excellent, passionate, and results-driven services. I’m most proud of what we’ve created for our team, and the passionate, incredible individuals that make up Radiant Marketing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Marketing is CONSTANTLY changing! It’s hard to say where it will be even in the next 1 year. I believe that AI will continue to play a larger role in consumer engagement and that virtual reality will become more mainstream.

Two things are certain though when it comes to successful marketing – you have to understand your audience and must always be authentic and real in all of your communication and messaging.
