Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaity Proctor.
Kaity, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been volunteering at therapeutic horse barns for about eight years now. I’ve always been passionate about bringing horses and people together for healing. I moved to Arizona about a year ago and stopped riding horses or volunteering until I found Barn Yard Equine in Gilbert, AZ last October. Barn Yard is a place where people of all ages and abilities come together to experience horses. I’ve been volunteering my time there and have been inspired to pursue horse therapy professionally. I’m currently working hard to get into Scottsdale Community College for their Equine Science program, and I’m also pursuing an ESMHL certification, which stands for Equine Specialist in Mental Health Learning. My goal is to continue to bring horses and people together in a safe and effective way. I’m excited to pursue higher education to become educated and qualified to one day open up my own equine retreat center here in the Valley!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all! I’ve been passionate about horses since a young age, so I pursued the field professionally at one point by living and working at a competitive horseback riding facility. I ended up being miserable and stopped riding at all for a couple of years because I was so disheartened by the competitive side of horses, where it seemed like nobody cared about horses as animals- only as tools to move them up in the competitive ranks. However, after rediscovering the beautiful healing side of horse therapy here in Arizona, I’ve truly come back to my roots and I couldn’t be happier, or more excited about my future with horses!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Barn Yard Equine story. Tell us more about it.
At this point, you can probably tell horses are a HUGE passion of mine! Everyone who knows me knows that my destiny is to have a life the revolves around horses.
However, I have always been a creative person and right now, I’m working on growing my youtube channel (Kaity Feather). I’m an avid hiker, and I enjoy filming and vlogging about local hikes in the Superstitions and other surrounding areas. I also advocate healthy living by nourishing the mind, body, and soul through various practices like eating good food, staying fit, and adopting a positive and strong mindset.
What sets me apart is that I moved out here to Arizona a year ago on my own, and I’ve been determined to THRIVE out here. It’s been a journey with many bumps along the way, but I feel like I’ve finally found my home, my people, and my purpose here.
Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
Discipline. Successful people know how to discipline themselves, and how to give up something good for something even better.
