Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaity Baugus.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaity. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Photography has always been a hobby to me. It has always been in the back of my mind as a dream of something I want to professionally do. However, I was scared of entrepreneurship and of the unknown. I was going to school for education, then switched midway to dental hygiene. I felt like something was missing. I didn’t really feel like I was doing what I needed to do.
I then began exploring the idea of making my dream of becoming a professional photographer come to life. After months of back and forth, I finally got the encouragement I needed to take the jump off the edge. I am so glad that I did and now am so excited for the unknown.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Nothing is perfect, and that’s okay. When I first created a business page on Instagram/Facebook, I found myself posting for all of the wrong reasons. I was posting just to try to get clients and just felt like that wasn’t a reason to be posting.
I quickly realized if I wanted to be completely happy doing this, when I post, it has to be real. I want to share stories of what’s going on in my life or about the beautiful people I photograph. I want to be vulnerable, tell people what I’ve been struggling with, my goals, and what I’m working hard for.
I’ve also struggled with booking clients and a lot of self-insecurity in thinking that I am not good enough. However, that doesn’t mean its time to give up. I continue to put my self out there, to post just because I want to and not with an end goal, to really reach out to the community, and to show people how much they are loved and how beautiful they are.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Kaity Mae Photography is my business that I built from the ground up.
I am a natural light photographer that specializes in couple + engagement, individual and family portraits. I am currently about to start shadowing another amazing photographer (Chelsea Kissam Photography), to learn the works of wedding photography. Soon, I’ll also be specializing in weddings.
My goal is to capture the in-between moments that always gets missed in life. I want to show people just how beautiful and loved they are. These genuine, joyous photos will be here for clients to look back on for years to come.
What sets me apart from other photographers is that I’m not a traditional photographer. I have my clients interact, act like I’m not there, dance around, tell jokes, run through the desert, etc.
I work very efficiently, love to use unique angles, really get to know my clients, and ensure that they are comfortable and having fun.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
I feel like with a question like this, you could only dream big. Over the next 5-10 years, I see Kaity Mae photography going full time in wedding photography, while still having a place for all the couples, individuals and families. Like always, I will continue to strive to discover really cool/unique locations and constantly put in the effort to perfect edits.
