Meet Justin Strauch of Jay Strauchy in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Strauch.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Justin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making music back in freshman year in high school. My whole life I have always been a music fan, when I was growing up I used to listen to Bee Gees and Bon Jovi on a toy radio, and I loved it. As I got older my taste for music started to change and as my brother started getting into rap music I hated it at first. A few months later a friend of mine was telling me about a new rap album that dropped and put my resentment towards the genre aside and I listened to it. After one listen to the first song on the album I instantly fell in love with the artist. The artist was Logic and the album was “The Incredible True Story”. I became so inspired after listening to that album that I decided to give rap music a chance, and I also wanted to take a shot at creating it. So during a school break I, my brother, and my best friend decided to make a mixtape. So over the course of the break we ripped too many free beats of the internet, downloaded Audacity, and began writing. At the time I didn’t know how to engineer music so I just looked up “How to Sound Good in Audacity” and it sorta worked. After about a week of working our group made 18 songs, that were horrible, and we compiled it into one package called “Imaginary”. We hyped up the release of it a couple days before school started then on the Sunday before school we released it. My best friend essentially told everyone at his school and I told no one at my school because I was insecure of my craft, I’m still glad I didn’t make that decision. That next day everyone at my friends school trashed on him because the music wasn’t good and for a while he didn’t make music. On the other hand I told no one at my school so I didn’t have to deal with ridicule so I decided to keep going. Over the course of the years I continued to make mixtapes and not release them to the public and I also eventually upgraded my software and began to teach myself how to engineer my music and produce it. This leads to today when my latest project “Ugly Dude” just dropped! I still have a long way to go but sooner or later I’m very confident that I’ll be remembered as a superstar because I am sure of it. I believe you can say things into existence and me being a mainstream artist is already completed in my head, I’m just living the journey now.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has defiantly not been a smooth road. Throughout the course of 4 years I’ve struggled with writers block, anxiety, and overall wanting to quit making music entirely. The honest truth of it all is I have only begun to scrap the surface of the industry and I have reached the peak of the “Bedroom Artist” aspect of the industry. There is still a very long road for me to travel, and even to this day I’m still stressed and worried not by the music but instead on how to grow a fan base and build a team of people to take me to the next level.

Jay Strauchy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well my craft as mentioned before is making music, specifically rap music. The whole genre of rap is way over saturated and it’s hard to stand out but I try to think that the way I stand out is through melodic rap but also through a blend of R&B with Rap. I love to use harmonies in my music and I also love making fun music to party too while also keeping a message within the core of the lyrics. I would say that I am most proud of my newest project because I did it in so little time and it’s honestly my best work to date!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far would have to be the fact that I can create amazing projects with awesome lyrics and in general awesome music in so little time. It’s cool to think that I churn out 10 track mixtapes fully written and engineered within 1 week. That still fascinates me to this day.
