Meet Justin Hagerty of Prolift Rental in Queen Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Hagerty.

Justin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started this business in March of 2019 to fill a much-needed gap in the rental market here in Arizona, Prolift Rental is a family-owned business which consists of my wife Krissy and a combined family of five kids Alex, Joey, Lily, Ashley and Brandon. Justin comes from the manufacturing business owner background and Krissy from healthcare, it was a new venture for both of us!

Our go-to-market strategy was to provide rentals at a reasonable price and offer free delivery and pick up as a value add which our competition doesn’t offer and this sets us apart from the rest.

Starting with four lifts in March, and due to the rapid growth, we now are up to 14 lifts! Business is growing with not only new customers but repeat clients. Our hours are 4:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Saturday, and technically not open Sundays, but if someone calls and needs a lift, we are ready to go!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle has been getting our name out in the market as the more established rental companies have the majority of the market share have been in the Valley for years.

When we started, I would stay up till midnight emailing companies that I thought could use our service. For every 200 emails I would send out, I was able to get one to two rentals! As I am on the roads here in Arizona and see a truck that has to do with electrical or mechanical companies, I would write down the name and email and/or call them to see if they rented lifts. It was definitely a “grassroots” effort getting out name out. I am sitting here in my office on a Sunday, after being out today dropping cards off on doors of new construction buildings in hopes of someone having a scissor lift need.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a scissor lift rental company, servicing the whole Valley. We offer multiple size scissor lifts, material lifts, and water wagons. We are known for having brand new equipment, that arrives clean and on time, every time. Our rates are competitive but what really sets us apart is the Free Delivery and Pick-up on ALL our equipment regardless of the rental time.

I am proud to be in the “family-owned business” space, as that is the backbone of America. The shortage of skilled trades in America is depressing to see for me as I grew up in a skilled trade and wouldn’t change it for the world. We are hoping to show our children that being an entrepreneur can be challenging, but the risk/reward is huge, not many people take this leap and we hope they see that and learn something from us in whatever their career aspirations may be.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To hear customers thank me for the rental experience we provided. I am all about building relationships, you make a customer not the sale. I love hearing that “we referred you out to other contractors” from customers we rented to.
