Meet Julio Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Lopez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
An artist wouldn’t be an artist if they didn’t have a story to tell of how they arrived at the point they are now, come to think of it. I don’t think an artist’s story ever ends. I believe it keeps on going and going, it has no end.

Well, it all started when I was in my elementary school days, I remember a neighborhood had got a camera for Christmas it was a Sony cyber shot the little bulky blockish cameras that took forever just to take a picture. Well, we would go around our neighborhood and record and take pictures of our everyday adventures. Most of the time it was finding secret spot to hang out, our friends doing tricks on our bikes, and taking funny pictures of each other’s happiest moments. After years of doing all my family decided to make the move to another side of town thus causing me a sad moment in my 8th-grade life because I was saying goodbye to friends. I had grown up with to cope with my sadness. I asked for a camera as well as a promotion gift into high school. I received the camera as a gift and spent that whole summer shooting around my new neighborhood. It felt as if I was starting all over again with new friends and new adventures met new friends who had similar interests as me and slowly started to develop a passion for photography. Once I found out about my high school having a photography class, I quickly signed up and began my course on learning more about the technology. I had at my hand and how I could express myself in so many ways through the art of photography.

Please tell us about your art.
¨A picture is worth a thousand words¨ I would always see this saying everywhere but I never really had a grasp of what it really meant. Till one day I took this amazing picture of my friend sitting on the bleachers one day afternoon while the sun began to settle after soccer practice. I knew right then, and there I wanted to create art through photography and make people feel the emotion as the person in the picture was feeling that day. I creat art photography in the moment pictures.. unplanned scenarios or feelings, the type of photos that make people feel. I want people to take away time from my artwork. In a sense, I want them to go back to the time when that photo was taken and have them feel as if they were there. As if they were the ones who got photographed. A photo that makes you turn twice the first time a person turns is to admire the beauty of it the second time they turn is for them to go back and say ¨this is more than just a pretty picture, I can see what the artist is trying to communicate¨

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Yes, we as an artist have a role to play, the reason to being yes is because artist have voices that can reach hundreds, thousands, and even millions what we do with those voices is up to us. We can unite people for the greater good. As a photographer, we adapt to situations no matter what good or bad because we have a responsibility to record history in its best and worst moments.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Currently working on a website/online lookbook, so that’s under construction, but for now people can follow me on my person Instagram @julioVeneno and my official photography page where I will be updating everything that has to do with my craft @julioshot. Any support is better than no support, simply by telling me I’m doing a good job is enough to fuel me to keep on pushing to create content.
