Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Armstrong.
Julie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After dedicating 25 yrs. of my career in the community relations, HR management, thought leadership, biz development, and volunteer arenas; I decided to branch out; work with others to develop their skills – to bring their business goals to life.
Currently, I share my creative touch on the brand management and digital footprint scene. I build unique campaigns for my clients. Focusing on their passion, story, digital stamp, and vision. I ensure they understand the importance of creating their legacy. Most importantly I team up with them to identify their connections and current trends to explore new business opportunities. I deem myself as their brand architect. I further utilize my skills in speaking to small groups throughout the Valley about building their brand and leading through their passion.
I proudly served as the 2013 AZSHRM State Conference Director, was the 2012 AZSHRM State Conference, co-Chair. I am a past board member of the AZSHRM State Council and a current Nat’l SHRM member. In 2012, I was the Judith Krebs, PHR Memorial Volunteer Leader of the Year Award recipient. I am past Chair of the Women in Business Council with the Tempe Chamber, past co-Chair on the Phx Workforce Connection Full/Executive Boards and past President of Staffing Management Association of Greater Phx.
I enjoy community service as evident in my past role on the BOD with Gabriel’s Angels and my role with Young Buckeyes of Phx and Buck Breast Cancer. Other community initiatives include PWC Youth Council, Fresh Start for Women, and the Junior Achievement Women’s Golf Classic committee, JA ‘You’re Hired’ board and as a volunteer/sponsor. Currently, I serve on the board of directors for Tempe Community Council and Pawsitive Friendships.
In 2011, I was a featured chapter in the book, Shattering Barriers: Amazing Women’s Journeys to Personal Empowerment written by Dolores Seright. I received my BA in Org Comm from Wright State University, and I am Master Graduate of Rapport Leadership International.
Serving up innovation and creativity since 2006! I am passionate about small business success in AZ!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road for my business. In the beginning, my leads and new clients were based on referrals and word of mouth, and I did not even have a website. I have realized over the last three years what an impact I can make and those who need the added benefits of what my business offers, and that is the ‘beyond marketing’ model I have built my success and success of my clients. Many people do not realize they need to spend time ‘on’ their business and not always working ‘in’ their business, so that is where I come in. I would say the biggest struggle is the client seeing the real value and ROI of what you do for them each day. The rest is just business, finances and such. Not struggles only necessary evils if you will. Now, I, as a small business owner see the value of investing in my business and truly showing my clients how and why I do what I do each day!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a brand and content architect, and I specialize in:
Networking
Connector
Brand Reputation
Digital Footprint Spy
Content Management
Fund Development
Community Service/Volunteer
Business Development
Human Resources
Community Relations
All these factors assist my clients and me on the road to success. What sets me apart is that I am real. Not here collecting a paycheck and I care. I am with my clients every step of the way. On a call, in person, at events, making introductions and treating their business as if it were mine. We develop a business strategy which might include and a lot of different variables. I am not a one-size-fits-all operation; my model is one-size-fits-none. I love what I do and how I do it. See other’s success, makes me smile with joy and pride.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been a go-getter. Volunteering, working in school activities, clubs, and athletics. I loved being involved and strived to know more and still learning and growing personally and professionally. The number one growth spurt for me was traveling as an exchange student in the summer of 1985 to Santiago, Chile. The experience opened my eyes and made me see the world in a new light. I knew I was always going to be able to see the big picture in life after that and understand living in the moment. I am blessed in that way. I am tenacious, passionate and firm in my way. I have always used my skills to advance myself personally and professionally and I have used them to advance and work alongside others to do the same.
