Meet Julianna Lyddon of Enlighten Candles Arizona in Prescott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianna Lyddon.

Julianna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an intuitive and a life coach who has worked for a decade empowering clients to recognize their gifts. Out of this practice, Enlighten Candles was born. I believe candles are a tangible way to bring powerful messages through mantras and olfactory sensation. Self-taught, I created candles filled with magic and clean ingredients that bring light and aroma to everyone.

Since the early days, Enlighten Candles Arizona has expanded into a family-owned, women-operated company that embodies mysticism, clean ingredients, and eco-consciousness with our entire line of candles that are hand-poured in small batches. It is our mission to provide the highest quality candles with the longest burn time and the best scent throw with Mother Earth in mind.

Our candles are free of the bad stuff and only keeping what works. Each product is free of paraffin, additives, dyes, petroleum, phthalates, and use lead-free wicks and non-gmm soy wax. They are also Prop65 compliant so you can feel good about burning our candles.

Has it been a smooth road?
I started out without investors and used only a couple of thousand dollars to buy enough supplies to practice making candles. Candle making is such a science and an art. I taught myself in my kitchen and there was a lot of trial and error, trying to find the perfect balance of the right ingredients, the right amount of scent, etc.

The biggest challenge in building a business today is having the tenacity to pound the pavement and get the doors to open. I was in Whole Foods market within nine months of starting my business. I knew I wanted to be in there from the beginning and being predominantly a wholesaler, I knew my sights were set high. EVERYONE told me it couldn’t be done and I never gave up… hitting each store repeatedly until I convinced them to give us a try. Now, we are the number one candle, in sales in all of the southwest region of WF. We also sell to TJMAXX and Homegoods and online

At Enlighten, we are striving to revolutionize the candle industry by handcrafting our products with clean ingredients and empowering messages. Raising the consciousness of each household, one candle at a time.

Our candles act as a tool for personal guidance and transformation. From the infused oils to the channeled messages, the hand-drawn artwork, to the crystals and treasures charged under the full moon; each one holds meaning to empower the customer. Many of our candle lines also have unique hand-drawn illustrations and fonts, creating the feeling that each candle is one of a kind collectible.

We also take great pride in our creative process of hand pouring, infusing oils and inspecting each candle. When you light our candles, you will experience the magic that goes into each and every container.

Community is very important to us as well. We have a strong respect and appreciation for our community; we work with local artisans and non-profits to create a better future for generations to come.

What were you like growing up?
I had a wonderful, fulfilled childhood. I have three older brothers and with that came lots of teasing and occasionally substituting in a backyard football game when somebody didn’t show up. I was also always inquisitive and curious about life…often asking too many questions for anyone to answer sufficiently. My curiosity drove me to constantly keep exploring, growing, and harness my intuition.
