Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Chau
Hi Julia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Canada but moved to Goodyear, Arizona, when I was five. Growing up in the Valley, I developed a deep passion for figure skating. I started skating when I was 7, and I was training seriously by my teens. I was at practice 7 days a week at the rink in Peoria, while living in Estrella. It was a demanding routine—training seven days a week, maintaining a rigorous diet, and balancing school at Estrella High School, located an hour away from the rink. I also travelled to compete often.
At 15, I moved back to Calgary, Canada. My parents stayed in AZ, where they still live. I continued training and completed my high school education before heading to the University of Calgary. There, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Law and Society, and became a competitive cheerleader for my university. After graduation, I took some time to explore the world and backpacked across Europe for six months – this inspired my passion for travel, culture, and photography. My social media presence grew as I shared my travels and experiences.
After my European adventure, I returned to Arizona to study for the LSAT and work at a local law firm to gain experience in the legal field. I also was a cheerleader for the Arizona Coyotes! Eventually, I made my way to New York City to attend law school at CUNY, where I’m currently in my final year as a J.D. candidate, expected to graduate in May. Because of my prior travel experience, I eventually established myself as a lifestyle and travel influencer. I primarily focus on content related to NYC and Phoenix now that I’m in school, but occasionally travel for content as well!
I also keep myself active – I love to do yoga, dance, pilates, and I even qualified to run the NYC Marathon!
Being an influencer has been the perfect part time job. & creative outlet while in law school & I also coach figure skating!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Balancing my influencer career and my journey as a law student has been challenging. The two fields are so different, law demands precision, professionalism, and structure, while the world of social media requires creativity, spontaneity, and constant engagement. They both require a lot of time, and networking – It’s not easy juggling both, but I love the variety and its a good balance!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m proud of my ability to balance a diverse set of passions and responsibilities. I’m a figure skater, dancer, content creator, lawyer, and traveler. Law school is demanding, but I’ve always made it a priority to continue pursuing the things I love.
What sets me apart is my ability to maintain a sense of balance in all areas of my life. It’s not just about excelling in one thing—it’s about thriving in multiple areas simultaneously. I’ve managed to maintain strong relationships, form lasting friendships, and stay connected with a community of people who share similar interests in the meantime as well. My ability to do so has taught me valuable time management skills, resilience, and adaptability. Most of all, I’m proud of how these experiences have shaped me into someone who is not only professional and driven but also deeply connected to the things that inspire me, which I think makes me more creative, motivated, and grounded in everything I do.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My parents have been so supportive my entire life of everything I do!
As a young figure skater, my mom would drive me to skating -2 hours a day, be at all my practices and events!
They’ve always encouraged me to go after everything that I want and taught me not to settle.
