Today we’d like to introduce you to Journee Moffett.
Hi Journee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Traveling has always been a part of my life. As a young child, I was able to experience ten different states and lived in half. Road trips from state to state. Four of us, me being the second oldest, crammed into the back seat of a small Toyota Rav; driven by dad and all captured on disposable film cameras by mom. All the while romanticizing a passport while trying to get my hands on a camera, I realized this was it.
This is me. During high school, I discovered my love for writing, mostly because of a considerate English teacher. It was during those years I thought of a career that combined my interests. Although the stress of young adulthood stifled my ambition, not to mention the pandemic, I am proud to say that I can begin this year, at 23 years old, with a passport and a small media business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t often think about the struggles I’ve faced. It seems these past few years have been overflowing with hardships.
Beyond that, my rebellious teenage years falling in love; unreciprocated, foster care, separations, homelessness, and obstacles have always been present. Albeit the toughest challenge to date, myself. It’s up to me to push myself, to hold myself accountable for my failure, while staying humble after a win. Through each project, I learn a little more about who I am, what I could’ve done differently, and what I could improve on moving forward. Nevertheless, it’s a long road, but you can’t stop enjoying the process.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist first and foremost. No matter which medium I chose.
With my photography, whether it is a commercial piece or a personal portrait, I attempt to bring out what’s not seen but felt. I strive to cause consideration when I write. Thought-provoking content. It’s more than just media, it’s a discussion. For any inquiries about projects, portraits, or articles, please reach out to me using the links below.
What do you think about happiness?
For me, my happiness comes when I experience life beyond the prosaic day-to-day. I was invited on a trip to Nogales, Mexico recently by a good friend.
To his astonishment, I didn’t hesitate. Before I even knew what I was signing up for, I blurted out “yes”. The possibility of a new country was overwhelming. The nervousness, anxiety, and stress that is international travel only turned to joy.
