Meet Joshua Killeen of Storytellers in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Killeen.

Joshua, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started developing my passion for digital storytelling/portraiture/film while enlisted in the armed forces and deployment overseas. There was something about preserving a moment in time that really called to me, and I started realizing this passion with capturing the story of my deployments abroad. Upon returning home, I continued to develop while learning more about film and digital photographic techniques attending UCSD’s digital photograph program. Upon graduation, I founded what is now known as the Storytellers team! We provide quality, consistent, and reliable photo and video services worldwide, with our base city being our hometown of Phoenix, Arizona!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say that the proverbial road has been “smooth” per se, but it has been 100% worth it! I would say that the biggest struggle for me personally as a media artist is dealing with negative client feedback and the huge amount of competition in our industry. Fortunately, we have been blessed with amazing clientele, and have had minimum experience with negative client feedback! When it comes to “the competition” social media outlets have made standing out as a digital artist very challenging. The days of viewing one’s work in print, in person, in a gallery, or in-person consultation are dwindling, but we are constantly growing and learning new ways to bring our work to the forefront!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Storytellers – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.

We provide video and photo coverage both, and also provide private sessions for portraiture and other commercial projects! We also pride ourselves on making our clients feel “like a pro” in front of the camera, all while adding a more familial approach when working with our customers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The Storytellers team is growing! We plan on having a total of three international lead photographers, as well as two international lead videographers! We are currently developing extremely competitive photo+film packages for our wedding clients to be the best value/quality service in the industry!
