Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Fosbre.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was given my first camera, a Nikon D5200, around my 14th birthday and have been rather obsessed since. I began technical training at Glendale Community College and am continuing my education at the University of Arizona in Tucson. My work has themes relating to feelings or situations I have found impactful throughout my life so far, be it positive or less so.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t but I am a cis presenting white man, I have experienced a lot of privilege. I have been fortunate enough to have a family in which I am supported while physically being in communities in which a queer identity was not welcome for a large majority of my life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Some of my ongoing projects have themes focusing on social structures and environmental statuses. I am proud of work in which I successfully convey a message or properly execute a new technique. Documentary and portrait photography are styles in which I believe I excel in but I really love abstract work. I’m still developing my own abstract style, and learning in general.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a total nerd, marine biology was my thing, and I have been told I was a very happy baby. I have always loved music and often look back on at-home concerts I would put on with a smile. I was never good at sitting still in school. I always found my way to the administration office while still doing pretty okay in school. Around 6th grade is when day-to-day life became a bit more difficult for me but I glad to say I survived.
