Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Daniels.
Josh, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally born and raised in Southern California until I was 25 years old. I lived in Hawaii and then moved to AZ about eight years ago to be closer to family.
I started doing photography over eight years ago due to my girlfriend at the time having a camera, and she let me play with it. She was great at photography, and I felt she should do that for side work, but she did not want to, so I did. At first, I was not serious, just clicking buttons and collecting money. However, the past three years is when I started taking it more serious and actually trying to learn how to do it properly. After I saw I had a decent eye, I moved some of my focus to do my overall passion of making films.
I started Red 5 Productions about two years ago around the time I filmed my second short “The Last Hour.” Now I have a total of four shorts and one documentary under my belt. I am currently promoting my new film “The Decision” to film festivals around the United States. Three festivals already have selected the film, Night of Misfit Films, Soul West Film Festival, and DCC online film festival.
Has it been a smooth road?
No road is ever smooth, but I am glad it has not been. I call my life “A Beautiful Struggle.” I received a lot of criticism from the first director of photography I worked with on my short film “ISO.”
I tried not to care too much, to what he said, but it is your first film, and you want it to be good. I struggle with showing and promoting my work due to the fear of never living up to what I know I should and can do. This is more mind over matter, but I will be the first to admit it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Red 5 Productions, Josh Daniels Photography, and Blak Marketing & Consulting – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Photographer, Film Director, Writer, Producer, and youth activist. I try to convey a special message with every film I make. My photography work is what I saw when I shot it, there is no need for me to change what was seen.
There is beauty in keeping it real with your work. I spend my time when I am not doing video and film, working with youth in the community to help shape them for the future.
Youth of all ages are important to me, and I hope to use my film and photography skills in the future to work with them.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?For film, the industry is changing every second. More technology is being used or invented every day to make it easier to make films. I think in 5-10 years though, the market will grow with more filmmakers, in the indie film scene.
The indie film scene will probably eventually be bigger than Hollywood, due to the robust of filmmakers developing new talent. I hope to see more indie film events and film theaters just displaying indie works.
