Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Hoffman.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When I was ten years old, my father gifted me and my two older brothers instruments. Mark, the oldest, played drums. Micah, the middle brother, played guitar which left the bass guitar for me. My father played lead guitar and guided us as best as he could through the mayhem that is the music business. Once we all picked up the ropes, we started a family band with my friend Ryan McCarty on lead vocals called, Glory To Judge. We toured around the Midwest playing shows in Detroit, Toledo, and Cleveland when I was just 13. Opening for bands like Sick Puppies, RED and more.
After high school, we disbanded because I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. I put my time in there, struggling like many young artists do. Playing in various LA rock bands like “The Hard” & “FIRE” while still working at Guitar Center and waiting tables at a restaurant called El Cholo in Santa Monica, CA.
Five years pass in California before I get a phone call from a friend asking if I’d like to audition for a band called The Black Moods. I quickly replied with a “YES” because I was already a fan of these guys and owned both their records. So they sent me 15 songs to learn and flew me out to Phoenix for a few days to jam. After one run-through of the set, I was in. And now I get to tour around the world with my friends doing what we love, spreading our art to everyone.
Please tell us about your art.
What we do as a band is create pieces of music that people can relate to on a human level. Music and art have always been the great avenues of self-expression. I think what sparked in me was the same thing as every other artist. You get inspired by a certain song, artist or painter and run with it. Hoping to create the same sense of inspiration and emotion in others when they see/ hear your artwork. Messages change depending on the mood of the artist and many other variables, but I will say, the best artwork comes from the soul. The thing that moves you and makes you jump and scream! If it doesn’t make you move, cry, laugh, feel some sort of emotion. Start over.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Network online and in person. I am living proof that it works. You have to get out there and talk to people and play any opportunity you get. Play like it’s the last show you’ll ever play. Because you never know who you’re going to be performing in front of.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
