Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Gililland.
Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Jordan! Mom, wife, hairstylist, salon owner, educator, and creative. I wear many hats, but I’m living a life that was once only a dream.
My love for hair started back in high school, where I was fortunate enough to attend EVIT, a vocational program that allowed me to enroll in beauty school early. I earned my license at just 17 and haven’t looked back since.
Over the years, I’ve walked many paths in this industry…from being an assistant to commission stylist, suite renter, and now owner of a micro salon with a team of five incredibly talented stylists. Each phase brought challenges, growth, and clarity. I’ve rebuilt, rebranded, and refined my clientele more than once to align with my brand vision and goals. The beauty industry is fast-paced, ever-changing, and not for the faint of heart… it takes grit, resilience, and constant evolution to thrive.
As my skills and knowledge grew, so did my love for education. I’ve always believed that growth is tied to learning, and that belief has guided me throughout my 15-year career. Every misstep and miscommunication became a lesson. Those lessons helped shape the educator and leader I’ve become.
I started mentoring assistants six years ago, and that’s when everything shifted. Supporting other stylists and watching them flourish has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. My team and business grew organically, and many of my former assistants have become the backbone of my salon, Done Up Beauty Bar, which is now known for custom blonding and extensions.
In the last three years, I’ve poured my heart into a new chapter… Done Up Education!! It was a dream and passion for so long, one that’s pushed me to grow, expand, and dream even bigger. Like many, I faced imposter syndrome stepping into the education space, but I didn’t let it stop me. Becoming a PLATINUM.STYLE EDUCATOR for KEVIN.MURPHY gave me the confidence to fully lean into this new direction.
Today, I not only educate on behalf of KEVIN.MURPHY, but I also lead my own education platform, offering extension certification, business mentorship, assistant program strategies, quarterly masterminds, 1:1 coaching, and more. I’ve learned that when passion meets purpose, the possibilities are endless…and I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like anything in this industry, there are highs and lows. Gaining confidence behind the chair, and learning how to pass that confidence onto your clients is a journey of its own. But one thing I’ve learned is this: mastering your foundation and learning how to market your skills is the one constant in a constantly evolving career.
As a hairstylist, no one hands you anything. You have to shout to the world who you are, what you offer, and why it matters. The business side… money management, taxes, building and sustaining a clientele isn’t something they teach in school. You either learn through experience or seek out the right mentorship. For me, confidence didn’t come overnight… it was built over time, and now it’s something I’m passionate about helping other stylists develop through what I’ve learned over the past 15 years.
When I started growing my team, I knew I was stepping into something bigger than myself. It felt exciting, overwhelming, and honestly… pretty intimidating. But I jumped in anyway, fear and all. The learning curve was real. It challenged me to lead differently, communicate better, and level up how I showed up every day. Through that process, I found myself facing a truth that many salon owners quietly carry: it can feel isolating, uncertain, and heavy to lead without a roadmap. I realized I wasn’t the only one navigating those feelings and that so many others were in the same place, just trying to figure it out as they go.
That’s where the idea for a mastermind community was born!
I created a space for salon owners and stylists to come together, hold each other accountable, and have real conversations about leadership, growth, and strategy. We exchange ideas, support one another, and stay grounded in the truth that we’re doing meaningful work… even on the hard days. It’s the kind of space I wish I had earlier in my journey, and I’m proud to keep it going.
At the end of the day, I meet every challenge with optimism and gratitude because growth doesn’t happen by staying comfortable. Every obstacle has been a stepping stone to something greater.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a creative, what I’m most proud of is my ability to take a vision and bring it to life, both in my business and in the way I live. Done Up Beauty Bar is the heart of that vision. It’s more than a salon… it’s a space built on connection, care, and culture.
Education, client experience, and healthy hair are the foundation of everything we do. We lead with honesty, clear communication, and a genuine love for the people who sit in our chairs. Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
My greatest lesson has been to always keep faith. When I trust in God, I’m confident He will guide me through every challenge and tough decision. You can create the life you desire if you’re dedicated and willing to put in the work. The key is to never stop moving forward. Keep going, no matter what!
