Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Camomile.
Jordan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since my mom beat breast cancer about six years ago (she’s healthy and in remission now!). I started to learn of the crazy carcinogens found in all of our food and more! I started my business because I felt that there weren’t enough healthy to-go food options including a drive through.
I originally thought I would jump into a franchise but ultimately decided I didn’t want anyone stifling my creativity and love for food, so I instead started from the ground up. Without the ability to open a storefront immediately I found a shared licensed kitchen with other small businesses. We started out doing farmers markets and special events and eventually lunch deliveries and catering.
Now, we do deliveries and catering as well as proving local coffee shops with fresh, healthy salads. After being in business for a year and working many long hard days alone, my husband actually just joined Salad Dash full time! We’re currently looking for our first brick and mortar location with a retail front!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a small business there usually aren’t many funding options available. Most financial institutions request two years of sales history to even consider a loan.
So most of the small businesses out there have to pound the pavement to get sales history with little or no funding options. This has been the most difficult, we only had our tax return to invest and couldn’t afford to work full time, so exhaustion was a long time friend.
I now understand why so many businesses don’t make it. It is a lot of hard work, a million things on your mind and financial struggles all while trying to physically keep your eyes open!
Salad Dash – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Salad Dash provides healthy fresh meals at an affordable price. We do salads, wraps & snack packs. We carry a few fun options that are more uncommon like fermented beets and sauerkraut, not everyone’s favorite but a big winner if you’re a fan!
I was a vegetarian for seven years, so I’m always sure to have lots of options or yummy substitutions. We make all of our dressings, and I have to say our Caesar dressing is bomb-dot-com. I used to be a huge Caesar snob, so I took extra time pinning down the recipe.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as setting out with a goal and not quitting until you are happy with the results. I have huge goals for Salad Dash, but I feel successful in creating what I have with relatively little.
I have no intentions of quitting or slowing down, but I now know more about myself than I ever have. I know that I have the ability to create anything I put my mind to.
