Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Brown
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started The Lacto Bar after the birth of my twins in 2024. After having my girls, I was left with a ton of left over, expired, or unused breastmilk that was deemed indelible. I was so upset with how much milk I worked so hard to produce that was being wasted that it forced me to find a solution in how I could use it.
I was inspired to make it into soap and in the moment didn’t know how amazing it would turn out! After months of researching and curating the perfect recipe, I was able to create a bar gentle and nourishing enough for every skin type.
Since then I have had mamas all over the country send me their breastmilk to turn into custom loaves of soap for them to use. I have also expanded beyond breastmilk soap services by creating soap bars made from local raw goat milk. We are constantly growing everyday and in the process of expanding beyond just soaps. I am extremely grateful for how much support we have that allows us to expand and grow.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a struggle trying to balance being a business owner, creator, and mom of three under three. The hardest obstacles I’ve had to face while starting this business is being able to balance my family and my career. I have had to learn time management as well as how to prioritize certain tasks. I’ve made many mistakes, been distracted, frustrated, and at the end of the day just plain exhausted which has prevented me from being my best self for my family and for my business. It is a challenge I am still learning to navigate and manage every single day. Learning to say no to certain opportunities to put my kids first hasn’t been easy but I have faith that things work out the way they’re supposed to and so far they have.
Another struggle I have faced through this process is the way people react when they hear “breast milk soap”. I have had several people including family members tell me it’s a disgusting idea and question the business idea altogether. It’s been very interesting trying to market towards the right audience and how quickly some are to tell you what they don’t agree with. I am very confident in my products and have learned to overcome the hateful comments knowing the huge community of support I have standing behind me. I now know that with every disgusting comment there is someone who is amazed with what I do which has been an incredible realization and humbling experience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Lacto Bar is a small batch cold process soap company that specializes in breastmilk soap services and milk based soap products. Owned and operated by a mama of three, we strive to create only the best products for baby and the whole family to use. Founded and based in the East Valley of Arizona, we utilize local natural ingredients to create a bar that not only benefits you and your family but also families all over the East Valley.
We are a company like no other being able to offer you a second life for leftover, expired, or unused breastmilk. Through our breastmilk soap service we are able to collect your milk and turn it into a loaf designed and created by you, for you. From the milk to every ingredient that goes in it, we work with you to create something one of a kind for you to use on yourself, baby, and the whole family.
Mamas send us 4-12 oz of breast milk to turn into a loaf of custom soap that creates 10- 1” thick bars designed specifically for them. Offering mamas a service that’s one of a kind, just like them!
For those who want to utilize the benefits of our soaps without the use of breastmilk, we offer a variety of different goat milk soaps made with raw goat milk from local East Valley family farms.
We are extremely proud to be able to offer our unique services to mamas nationwide and expand beyond just mamas and babies by offering our small batch goat milk products to everyone. Our ultimate goal, being able to offer gentle skin, naturally nourished- The Lacto Bar way.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Growing up my younger sisters and I were very close in age and had the opportunity to do everything together. Wherever we went we always had the best of time and everybody knew it. My favorite memories as a kid go back to us playing Barbie’s and princess’s together. Being able to talk and stay up way too late making each other laugh. And of course the endless amounts of imagination and support we had for one another. To say I have one specific memory in mind, I wouldn’t be able to tell you, but rather an era of my life that lives forever in my head. We didn’t have a lot growing up, but we had each other and for that I am forever grateful for.
