Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Diaz.
Jon, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Miami, FL and moved to Arizona when I turned 17. Early on as I met people in Arizona I got into engineering and artist management, that helped me meet a lot of people in the music scene. The artist management side showed me a lot and little did I know it was setting me up for my next career.
Then about seven years ago I began to shoot and edit music videos. Using my relationships from my management past I was able to collaborate with many artists right away. I began to teach my self through trial and error on how to shoot music videos. I have been able to travel the whole country doing videos and I can’t thank Arizona enough.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road in the music video world. You have to deal with things constantly going wrong. Whether it be an artist cancelling. or a location we aren’t able to secure or a model cancelling completely altering the entire video. These challenges have just made me that much better. I’ve had artists pass away right after finishing a video. and having to navigate how to properly honor and release a video. I’ve had artists’ friends get really intoxicated and try to fight me lol. Anything that can go wrong will. But I still see how this has shaped me into a better director and a more resourceful person.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Soundvisionfilms is an Arizona based company. We specialize in hip hop and rap videos. We have been able to work with some of the best artists in the state like Delly every day, sincerely collins, judge da boss and many others. I am most proud of all the artists I’ve worked with that have had the courage to chase their dreams. We like to collaborate with an artist and really make them feel part of the process. We always take time to give artists advice on their career and digital distribution and it helps to set us apart from the rest is over a decade of music business experience.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
There is plenty of video work in the valley. we have people constantly moving here from all over the country and the demand is just picking up. if you are starting out just make sure this is something you enjoy. Video production can be very challenging and time-consuming so make sure this is something you really enjoy.
