Meet Johni’ Allen of Envy Lipstick Collection in West Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johni’ Allen.

Johni’, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I decided to start a lipstick line in September 2017, initially, it was a vision and I was determined to make it a reality,!so the meaning behind the name Envy is Every New Vision is Yours. This means to me that if you have a vision work hard and invest toward your vision then claim it then it will become yours. I got into make up late in my life as it wasn’t a necessity to me but it grew on me quickly and I thought to myself why not create a brand so that I can be a walking promo and also cater to all skin types and colors. I initially started with a vendor and that relationship unfortunately failed but I didn’t give up, I decided to research how I could continue to provide products without depending on someone else to make them how I wanted.

There were financial setbacks and sacrifices and the brand was in the background at one point but I decided this year to be my own manufacturer! By the grace of God, I figured out how to make my own liquid lipsticks and lipglosses. I have added my daughter Jaiona Allen to the brand as we have created the lipglosses for her kids line “Jaiona’s Jellies” I’m proud that she wants to have a line that caters to the younger generation of little ladies and I’m happy to announce I have since found a new vendor for the custom lipsticks, but I will continue to provide handmade scented/flavored glosses and liquid lipsticks as well as lip glitter glitz ( lipstick glitter flakes ) . I look forward to providing my services in 2020 to help others create lipgloss brands as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a struggle financially and time-wise. There have been several set backs but I never quit or gave up on the brand. I have sacrificed and purchased little by little in products until I could purchase more. Things are looking much better recently and financially I’m bouncing back and looking forward to a bigger and better future with Envy Lipstick Collection as a brand and Envy Cosmetics as a manufacturer.

Please tell us about your business.
Envy Lipstick Collection is a lip wear brand. I specialize in offering vegan items such as hand made lip glosses, liquid lipsticks, glitter glitz and custom lipsticks. The Brand is known for bold long-lasting wear colors and custom looks that change by season and sometimes there is a bonus color. I’m most proud of the drive and motivation that I have gained since starting the brand, proud that I have leaped out in faith and started making my own products. What sets Envy apart from others is that the prices are reasonable for those that love to look beautiful on a budget and all products are all-natural, can be worn and reflected on any skin tone with lasting wear up to 12 hrs for the liquid lipsticks smear-free and smudge-free for the lipsticks and true to color.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I would have put aside more money to invest in my brand , I would have initially not dealt with a vendor , I would have initially researched more colors and combinations to bring to my peers and clientele myself instead of wasting extra money that I really didn’t have paying vendor fees and shipping etc.
