Meet John Malott of Build Your Empire in Paradise Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Malott.

Thanks for sharing your story with us John. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I was way off track when I was young — First Felony arrest when I was 15. Heart attack from smoking crack by 17. 10th-grade high school drop out. Neighborhood plagued by drugs and gangs lost my 21-year-old sister to heroin. My only brother to this day still struggles with his heroin addiction. After being locked in detention facilities and two drug rehab centers, my life finally started to slowly shift.

It was while locked in a facility a counselor saw more in me then I saw in myself. He pulled back the curtain to another possible life, a life that I didn’t believe people like me could ever have. That life was for the people with the right pedigree, upbringing, and circumstances. I used to believe you had to be born with the Rolls Royce already in the garage in order to be successful.

It was that counselor that planted the seeds that entrepreneurship would be my way out of my neighborhood and current circumstances. It leads me on a personal development journey. I read every business book I could get my hands on, I limited my associations drastically. I attended (or snuck in) to every business seminar I could find.

Sometimes driving all night in my Pontiac 2000 two tones, one tone rust, one tone dirt. I would sleep in my car and wash up in public facilities. Once I believed it was possible for me. I pursued this ‘new life” with the same relentless, persistent commitment I did for my drug addiction. People laughed, ridiculed, and criticized me every step of the way. It was painful.

So many sleepless nights either working, planning, or questioning whether this would ever actually happen for me. My first breakthrough happened at a motivational seminar. I picked up a promotional newspaper. That led me to my first business mentor, that led me to my first business. It was way tougher then I thought it would be. Not because of the work itself, but more from the clear resistance from those closest to help, encourage or participate. I didn’t expect that!

It took seven relentless years to finally make 100k $ in a single year! But then everything changed fast! 8th year made over 216k$ then went on to make millions $. Today I have an amazing life, the type of life I could only dream about not too long ago. The funny thing is most of the people that were clearly against me, now acted like they had my back the entire time! Liars!! lol

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The frustration from it not happening as fast as I thought or needed it to. The bill collectors are driving me crazy! The long hours. Time away from the very people I was doing this for, ‘My family.’ I wanted to change the Malott family tree so bad!!

Sleepless nights, ideas that seemed great, but turned out to be garbage — the loss of social esteem, embarrassing promises to family, friends, and bill collectors. I remember driving to meetings in snow storms to meetings that no one showed up to. I remember people sarcastically asking “Are you rich yet?” I really thought this would be a smoother road. It was hard but worth it.

Build Your Empire – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Today I speak, mentor and develop entrepreneurs, preparing them for the journey, helping them to avoid the pitfalls and traps. Help them develop the mindset of world-class entrepreneurs. Help them create systems, scale and lead large organizations.

I’m known for my raw, transparent way of speaking on stages all over the world. Almost 1 million people have sat in the audience at these events. My self-esteem was so low not too long ago, it really blows my mind that this is what I do!

I believe people appreciate my #1 training technique “the truth” MY story really shows that If this mess up can do it, then anyone can!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe there are a lot of “successful” people out there. I meet them all the time. For me success is adding value to self, I’m really past that. Today I’m focused on significance, adding value to others. And Legacy, what my kids will say about me or have learned from me long after I’m gone.
