Today we’d like to introduce you to John D’Acquisto.
Pitched 10 seasons in the majors, mostly in the National League. Of his 266 total appearances, 92 were starts. Gifted with a tremendous fastball but iffy control, he made his major league debut for the San Francisco Giants late in the 1973 season, after having been a first-round pick in the 1970 amateur draft. I had some real success in the minors, going 17-6 for the Fresno Giants in 1972 and 16-12 for the Phoenix Giants the next season, striking out 244 and 245 batters. He went 1-1, 3.58 in his first taste of the majors then had a very good rookie season in 1974. He made 36 starts in 38 games for the San Francisco Giants, going 12-14 with a 3.77 ERA. He pitched 215 innings, striking out 167 batters – but also walking 127. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year by The Sporting News as well at its NL Rookie Pitcher of the Year.
In 1978 I was put into the Bull Pen and responded with an excellent season, when he was 4-3 with a 2.13 ERA and 10 saves 100% completion rating in 45 games. I struck out 104 in 93 innings, walking only 56 and giving up a mere 60 hits. It looked like he had found his spot, but the Padres already had an outstanding – and high-priced – closer in Rollie Fingers, so they tried to maximize my value by giving me some more starts in 1979. He made 51 appearances, including 11 starts, pitching 133 2/3 innings with a record of 9-13, 4.92. He struggled anew with his control, striking out 97 while walking 86. He was back in the bullpen full time in 1980, and put up a 3.76 ERA over 39 appearances before being traded to the Montreal Expos on August 11th. He pitched even better in Montreal, going 0-2, but with 2 saves and a 2.18 ERA in 20 2/3 innings over 11 appearances. John signed and with Oakland Athletics in early August. He came back to the majors at the end of the year, giving up 11 runs he threw his last big league pitch on October 1st 1982.
Back in 1996 I had some issues as a financial consultant and was imprisoned for 5 years. I was able to do a number of things to better my situation and change my life. I went back to school and took a number of classes, one was art class. I was also taught by some of the best pencil sketch artists that were so talented in Prison. They taught me how to draw with just a small number two pencil…From that point I was able to learn how to shade and outline virtually anything or any subject with one medium, Pencil…until I was able to use other pencil and pen mediums and added color to my works.
As I was released into society and increasingly engulf in my new hobby, at the time I found new digital methods that enhanced my ability and allowed me to create some unique pieces, in which I combined different mediums like digital to pencil to pen combinations that made my pictures pop. It took me to a different level and I began to publish my pieces on Facebook and bean to get recognized. I have had coaching from great artists such as Christopher Paluso, Gene Locklear who are very close friends and great artists. I was also very fortunate run into a very close friend of mine named Dennis Desprois who was with me in San Francisco when I played for the San Francisco Giants. Dennis is a fabulous artist and shared a number of techniques to even better my skills on a more professional level the site promotes the artwork done by ex-major league pitcher John D’Acquisto in a digital format with Microsoft Visual Studio Sketch Pad, iPad, Adobe Sketch, Adobe Line, Adobe illustrator, Microsoft Research 2008, and a stylus called Adobe Ink and Slide, Pen Pencils color water color Mediums

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been relatively smooth but obtaining the licenses was a difficult task at hand for the sports art primarily Baseball. I have struggled with different mediums changes and software improvements through Microsoft visual studio and Sketch Pad. All in all, it has been a wonderful journey…Subject matter is endless if you know what you are looking for as an artist.
