Meet Jimmy Ducas of JimmyD-Jewelry in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Ducas.

Jimmy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started making jewelry in 2000, beginning with wire wrapping and at the time I was also pursuing a career as a chef. With the long hectic hours, a chef has my jewelry and art was always just a hobby. After 20 plus years as a chef and only making jewelry on the side, it became evident to me that I was missing out on bigger things in life and then only started to really push myself in my art and start making jewelry as a full-time commitment.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been smooth to say, everything in life may always bring stress, but the reward of what I am doing now is much more fulfilling. I may not be making the money I have had as a chef, but I have time in my life to spend with my family, I just had a son and am so glad I am around to see him grow up and not just incoming and going between shifts.

Please tell us about JimmyD-Jewelry.
My art utilizes precious gems and metals and sets them in unique abstract symmetrical designs, meant to bring forth the healing powers of crystals. Every piece is made with intention to help transform or protect oneself in an everyday piece of wearable art.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I really hope to get into cutting and carving gemstones so that when I make a piece of jewelry, I will make every component the goes into it, everything from making my own metals to cutting my own gems. I also really want to go out and mine my own material.
