Meet Jim White of APEX Medical Reimbursement Solutions in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim White.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I realized that there was a unique opportunity for medical billing. After extensive research, I purchased a (shall remain nameless) Medical Billing franchise. I was extremely disappointed with the franchise offering and decided in short order to open my own business.

I rolled my sleeves up and purchased software, became a certified coder, completed countless classes and seminars and spent 5-6 hours a day self-directing my education by reading anything I could get my hands on about the industry.

One lead led to another and now 16 years later we are experts in our industry, have provided many employees with jobs that provide more than a livable wage and we have helped many practices perform optimally.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being in business is never only a smooth road. The reality of being a small business is that sometimes the road is bumpy. We have learned to embrace the bumps! We have been 100% self-funded and have never taken a loan. We have bootstrapped our way through many changes and challenges by doing what it takes to get the job done. We continue to find new creative ways to get in front of Doctor’s and practice decision makers. This year, we have a commitment to grow like we never have before. We have hired a new CMO and are working internally to improve in every way. We have the best team we have ever had right now and are planning on welcoming much growth this year.

APEX Medical Reimbursement Solutions is a locally owned and operated medical billing service with corporate headquarters located in Phoenix, Arizona. APEX has been providing medical billing services to the Phoenix medical community since 2002. We are fully licensed and compliant with HIPAA.

The APEX team consists of experienced professionals who specialize in practice management, medical billing and coding, and healthcare consulting across all specialties. What sets APEX apart is that we employ AAPC-certified medical billing and coding professionals and we shoot for 100% client satisfaction. The team is skilled in the current ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes. How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The healthcare industry is constantly changing and in flux. In particular, the Baby Boomers are always driving significant change for the industry as they age.

A big change is the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) that began performance in 2017 as part of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). Essentially codes and fee structures change every year but the change to MIPS means that instead of providers getting paid on a standard fee schedule their payment schedule will be related to the seriousness of the illness. Eligible Clinicians (ECs) or groups participating in MIPS will receive a payment adjustment (upward, downward or neutral) starting in 2019 based on a “MIPS Final Score” reflecting performance in a variety of categories.
