Meet Jim Sills of Clear Demand in Gainey Ranch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Sills.

Jim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We were founded in 2012 by the pioneers of price optimization for retail. The founders built JDA, Khimetrics, and Revionics. Our mission is simple. We have a solution that can help leading retailers improve their profit potential by helping them price and promote their products in alignment with true consumer demand.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have never had to raise cash for funding. Completely self-funded. Clear Demand has been profitable since 2013. We are very prudent with how we capitalize our growth.

Outside capital could have enhanced our ability to engage our customers in the marketplace but at the cost of potentially losing control over our overall strategy. Having our own skin in the game has focused us to those activities that truly make an impact for our customers.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Clear Demand – what should we know?
Clear Demand is the first company to deliver an omni-channel lifecycle pricing solution for retailers that synchronizes prices, promotions and markdowns online and in-store to produce a consistent brand and shopping experience. Clear Demand uses its patented science that analyzes historical sales to understand shoppers’ sensitivity to price and generate price and promotion strategies that account for pricing rules, cost changes and competitor prices to achieve profit and revenue goals. Architected on big data and delivered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS), our Intelligent Price Maintenance and Optimization (IPMO) solution can be administered from a public or private cloud.

Our innovations in retail science simplify adoption and use, while allowing retailers to see value in just weeks with more transparency and minimal disruption to existing business. The traditional retail industry is facing an existential crisis and we are helping them adapt to the changes in the marketplace and the threats posed by companies like Amazon.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We feel that it starts with strong morals and a commitment to an old fashioned work ethic. We’ve also focused on maintaining an objective appraisal of our market realities. This has helped us more effectively attack the opportunities that we uncover.
