Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Lyon.
Jim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Grandfather, Russ Lyon, started Russ Lyon Realty Company in 1947. My father, Dennis, worked for and eventually ran the company from the ‘70’s through 2008. In 2008, my business partner, Todd Gillenwater, and I bought Russ Lyon from my father and merged with a competitor and we became Russ Lyon | Sotheby’s International Realty – one of the largest and most successful Sotheby’s International Realty affiliates in the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
Our company has seen and endured a lot in its 71 years. Arizona has had periods of major growth interrupted by market crashes and economic crises. Most recently, of course, was the downturn of 2008-2011 that affected the Western US so dramatically. Being able to scale operations to match the ever-changing marketplace is always a challenge. What hasn’t changed and is never in question, however, is our commitment to delivering the highest caliber of customer service possible, regardless of what the market is doing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Russ Lyon | Sotheby’s International Realty – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At Russ Lyon | Sotheby’s International Realty, we pride ourselves in providing our agents the best brand, tools and leadership possible. We continually strive to be better, at every level of our business. We are a residential real estate company but to say that we sell houses is really missing the point.
We help our clients achieve their dreams and objectives in all areas of the real estate business. We are highly-trained, professional real estate advisors. We are also heavily invested in the communities we serve. Our Russ Lyon | Charitable Foundation, that my wife Robin heads, is active in charitable investing and service work through our V-Corps teams in each of our offices across the state.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Scottsdale is a fabulous place to live. It offers such varied lifestyles and attracts interesting people from all over the world. For my family, the ability to run, bike, swim, hike, golf and fish within minutes of our home is so important, so valued. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
As for what I like the least – traffic. I wish there were a way to have more public transportation. It’s such a challenge due to our enormous footprint, but it would be nice if we could efficiently and safely provide transportation along the major traffic corridors within our city.
