Meet Jewelle Lewis of Talk Fashions Beauty Bar and Boutique, LLC in 35th and Thunderbird

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewelle Lewis.

Jewelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Talk fashions started off as a Charity organization that I was trying to put together for young girls in Africa. I wanted a place or an organization that would mentor young girls and teaches them crafts such as sewing and designing, as well as teaching them the importance of education. At the time when I came up with the idea, I reached out to some people who I felt could help me reach my goals in setting up this organization, and no one was interested in. I had been away from Africa for more than years, as I came to the United States at the age of 11. I knew no one influential or with business potential in Africa at the time, and as a result of all the turn downs, I decided that I will still pursue this goal, but at a much later date. However, Talk Fashion will remain alive as I was determined to do something with the name Talk Fashions, as it sounded appropriate and it stuck with me for an entire year. So, I started selling clothes locally in Philadelphia and using Facebook to display the inventory I had.

I have always been interested in fashion: I love fashion… I love getting dressed up and doing my makeup. As time went by, I slowed down with the business and focused on school. I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with my Bachelors in Psychology and now pursuing my MSW degree. But with fashion always on my mind and always wanting to do something with the fashion business, I picked up where I left off. I moved to Arizona last year January (2018) and started attending vending events around the city, selling Jewelry and custom made African clothing. I also started to do makeup and hair braiding and weaving. I started to draw attention and everybody that I met wanted to know whether I had a store. So, as time went by, I decided to open my first store, due to open April 1st,2019, on the corner of 35th Ave. and Thunderbird, in the Thunderbird Plaza.

Eventually, with hard work and more exposure, I would like to expand my business and pursue opening a charity organization.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the challenges were people not taking my ideas seriously enough or just not being supportive. I started my business with no support; just self-determination.

Please tell us about Talk fashions Beauty Bar and Boutique, LLC.
I specialize in hair braiding, weaving and doing makeup. I like to see my clients happy, therefore, I give my very best to see their “satisfying smile.” I also sell African custom made clothing, as well as high fashion clothing. I can style you for an upcoming event: weddings, fashion shows, etc. My Motto: Don’t talk the talk, walk the talk. I am proud of this because it simply says: do not just talk about fashion, when you walk, let your fashion speak for itself.

Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself in a much bigger light: bigger space, more clientele, more inventory, and more exposure. I would like to be a part of fashion week, so hopefully, I can accomplish that soon.
