Meet Jessica Thomas of Imperative Concierge Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Thomas.

Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I never thought I would become a business owner. In fact, as a teenager, my mind was set on going to college, landing a great job, and climbing the corporate ladder. However, after attending college, working jobs, and even being promoted a few times – something was still missing. While my work was definitely purposeful, I felt called to have a greater impact.

So around early 2015, an idea hit me while researching what tasks I could outsource to balance work, school, and family. I realized that I probably wasn’t the only one looking to outsource and that having a one-stop solution for checking off my to-do list would be convenient. At that moment, I decided I wanted to start a business. So, by September 2015, I launched Imperative Concierge Services, a Virtual Assistant Agency that caters to business owners and professionals tired of doing it all.

By April 2017, I’d walked away from my full-time job and dived completely into my business. Since then, it has been an exhilarating and challenging experience, but I don’t regret my decision one bit! I can see firsthand the impact my company has on entrepreneurs and organizations. Today, in addition to my Virtual Assistant Agency, where I’m the Chief Delegation Officer, I’m also a Virtual Assistant Advisor at The Imperative VA. There, I advise women on how to achieve time and financial freedom with their own virtual assistant business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, but I’m okay with it. Every mistake I’ve made has made me a better business owner. I believe if you’re going to fail, go ahead and fail fast so you can improve, revise, and evolve.

One mistake I made early in business was trying to outsource too soon. At the time, I was still at my job and trying to juggle my business, so I thought the best solution was to hire someone to manage my phone lines during the day, etc. That decision ended up being costly and honestly ineffective. Today, I know the real solution I needed at the time was to set up automation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Imperative Concierge Services aims to make outsourcing to talented virtual professionals seamless. I realized early on that many business owners didn’t delegate because the process of hiring a VA can seem intimidating and overwhelming. Fortunately, our unique approach allows busy entrepreneurs to do it with ease.

I think what makes my company different from others is that we’re not just trying to help people outsource. Our vision is to change the narrative surrounding entrepreneurship and the do-it-all-yourself mindset. We want a future where entrepreneurs can work smart and strategically and achieve scalability without burnout. I want readers to know that it’s okay to outsource. You don’t have to do it all, and you shouldn’t be trying to do it at all. We have to give ourselves permission to rest, reset, and focus on our zone of genius.

I believe that when we prioritize the tasks and responsibilities that we’re really good at, we flourish. And when we flourish, not only do we benefit, but so do our communities. Therefore, if you need a virtual assistant to help you, don’t hesitate to contact us! We have very flexible plans that’ll work for new and experienced business owners.

We all have a different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Wow! Great question! Success to me looks like so many things. I feel successful when I pair my clients with a virtual assistant that helps them thrive personally and professionally. I also feel successful when I advise virtual assistants on how to grow their businesses, and they experience a win. I feel successful when I’m able to be supportive of my family and friends, be in charge of my schedule, or hit a monetary goal.
