Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Pierce.
Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Jessica and my “Story” to becoming an Artistic Motivator and Paint & Sip Art Studio Owner is a colorful one! As a child, my parents always encouraged creativity and authenticity with me and my two siblings. My older sister, younger brother and I grew up in a house full of love, strong morals, values and DIY projects. In our home, we always had support, openness, good family laughs and genuine trust. We have always been and still are a tight-knit family.
Fast forward to young adulthood, I started the journey of exploring my creativity and need to make/craft/DIY and create. In my early and mid 20’s (as many of us do), I found myself searching for my life’s meaning and purpose through the day to day routine that I called life. In my late 20s, I found a great company to work for and started down a path that I thought would be my “career” and happiness. This company was truly a great company. They treated their employees wonderfully, spent time and money on developing their talent and the leaders really cared. I was waking up and going to work for a great company, making decent money and working with people that I loved….but in the core of my bones, I did not feel fulfilled. I was not waking up being authentically ME. I was not able to be creative and I was not being true to myself.
Over the last decade with this company, ART becomes more of an emotional outlet and that lead to my epiphany. Art is my calling. Teaching art, Artistic Motivation, Guiding friends and family to Creative Confidence was my true calling and purpose in life. Through some reflection, I became wildly aware that my creativity in all aspects of my life had inspired and motivated those around me all along. While I had always been creative, TEACHING, GUIDING and MOTIVATING others through their Artistic Journey became more and more apart of my passion. I saw clearly that art heals, calms soothes, guides, makes memories, creates happiness and kindness just to name a few things. Art is LIFE IMPACTING and being able to share that with people (my family, friends and the community) quickly became my clear goal and purpose.
My story is simple. I have an amazing family. My upbringing was not always easy, but I would not give it up for anything. As an adult, I have experienced life changing loss, sadness and overcome some heavy stuff. I have also experienced life changing love and an unbreakable bond with my spouse. Through that, all, art, family and friends have been right by my side! These things have made me who I am. I have been able to be ME. To share my artwork in a safe and supportive space. That in itself is WHY I am where I am today. I longed to be that person. The one who provides that support, love, motivation and space for others to get creative, to be open, have some laughs and explore their creativity. So I woke up and made the decision. I was going to live my most authentically colorful life and open up my own Art Studio and be an Artistic Motivator!
When I opened my Paint & Sip Art Studio, I gave myself a Title. Jessica – Artistic Motivator, because that has been and will always be what I am GENUINELY GREAT AT! Motivating others in all forms of ART on their personal artistic journey! I am a firm believer that “there is no wrong way to ART”. Part of my goal is to share ART, to make it accessible to all. To teach, guide and motivate through classes offered in my Studio. So that is just what I have been doing. Offering art in many forms to all of the community with support, love and motivation.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Finding, accepting and following your true life’s calling is not an easy feat. We (humans) are taught to follow the norm. Go to school, graduate, get a job, work for corporate America, make money, save, save, save, get married, buy a house, have a family…etc. Well, it was hard to NOT follow this path at first because I felt like I was doing things wrong. Like I was going to fail. But let me tell you how LIBERATING it has been to accept my passions and my strengths and go for it! It is the BEST decision I have ever made and while some of the day to day things are challenging (managing a business has a ton of moving parts), I would not change my choice one bit.
The main struggle that I am facing now is TIME. I am a one woman show. Doing everything for my business is very time consuming. I have found some great tips on how to manage time and will continue to learn and grow but as of now, TIME is the biggest struggle. Making sure that I am taking time for me, my creativity and my family and friends have to stay at the forefront of my mind. Some days I am consumed in the business and that can quickly run a person down.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is about Experience. About allowing yourself to explore your creativity with some structured guidance and support along the way! It’s about setting the right mood and tone for my customers and about creating trust and a relationship. Making people feel comfortable and happy while they create is so important to me. I truly care about my customers, what their art experience is like and how they perceive their artwork. Half the battle in art is overcoming negative self-talk. Once I guide my customers through that, we start to move into the Creative Confidence portion of the class!
For the majority of my classes, my customers arrive. I introduce myself, meet them and get to know them a bit. Things like special occasions, first time ARTing, or if they are just looking for a fun time are some common talking points. Once I understand their needs, I am able to set the tone for the class! I offer step by step instructions for the majority of my classes. Through the instruction, I am diligent with checking in on each customer and their progress. I would say that my specialization is Positive Reinforcement and constant Motivation. Through personal feedback and reviews, many of my customers have stated that I am a great teacher, patient and so motivational. While I am still considered to be a new company, I am most proud of the friendships and relationships that I have built with so many of my customers. They send me pictures of artwork that they practice at home, they send me pictures and messages of the artwork they have created in the studio hanging in their homes and they come in to see me between art classes. These connections are genuinely what I am most proud of. Seeing the community claim their creative confidence is so important and moving. Creativity is what makes the world go round, how we innovate and make positive growth and change. To know that I am impacting others creativity is an amazing feeling.
When I think of what sets me apart as a Paint & Sip Art Studio, I think of two main things. One, I have talked about. How motivational I am and genuinely involved I am with my customers! Two would be my partnerships. I LOVE to learn, grow and share art. I have done some cool collabs with other local artists. It is important to me to offer many forms of ART. I am not a master of all things art so I like to have other artists who work with other mediums come in and teach with me! This allows my customers to have a wide variety and for other local artists to get some face time with the public along with sharing their craft!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Growth and sharing ART with more of the community. I am also very excited about all the future collaborations to come with local AZ artists!
