Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Neeley.
Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in AZ most of my teen and adult life. I am originally from New Jersey, and my parents are both from Colombia. Growing up, I loved being feminine and had a love for fashion and makeup. I developed a deeper love and understanding for makeup in college, and have been freelancing for over six years. I love helping other women appreciate their beauty, makeup was and still is a stress reliever for myself. I felt like the ugly duckling a lot of my life, and once I was able to master my passion for makeup, I was able to realize my own talents and inner beauty. I hope one day to own my own makeup line, inclusive to all men and women of all colors.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being the child of immigrants, I always felt pressure to make my parents proud. They’ve been a wonderful support system for me, and I can’t ever thank them enough for believing in me and my dream. I faced a lot of inner struggles growing up. I felt inadequate and insecure because I looked and acted differently from my peers, and I internalized a lot of fears and insecurities others around me had. As of recently, I’ve cut off negative people and circumstances around me, and I’ve found new purpose in myself and my craft.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jessibaby_17 – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a freelance makeup artist in the Phoenix. I have a passion for management, creative directing, and music as well. I am most proud of myself for being open to change and learning new things, as that has helped me realize my ability to manage talent as well as how to creatively direct and style a shoot on my own. I love dope human beings, and I love to collaborate with others. I think teamwork makes the dream work and what sets me apart from others is my lack of ego in this industry. I feel good energy and a good heart always wins, regardless of the adversities or negativity in a situation.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment of my career so far has been managing R’Kyra Ortiz. Not only because she is a great talent but because through managing her I was able to realize my full potential as a business woman. She helps push me to be more confident and self-assured, and that really helped me realize just how much I want to be in the fashion and makeup industry, not just as a part of it, but as a leader in it.
