Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ivey.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are a sister owned company that started in the summer of 2020. My sister and I have been in the hair industry our whole lives and knew we wanted to have our own space where we could grow stylists and be able to offer luxury services in our area. We currently have a 17 chair salon with an esthetician as well as a massage therapist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a business always comes with its ups and downs but we have been extremely fortunate in ours. Of course we have had to deal with stylists leaving unexpectedly but that allowed us to pour our time and energy into the stylist that wanted to learn and grow. In October of 2022 we expanded, going from a 7 chair salon to 14! That has been the best move business wise for us!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionalism means showing up on time – every time. It means dressing the part, looking polished, and taking pride in your appearance. It means respecting every client’s time, even if they’re just in for a bang trim or a gloss.
It’s in how you carry yourself in the back room, how you respond to feedback and how you treat your employees and coworkers. This industry is built on relationships and people notice how you act when no one’s watching.
If you want to grow in this industry, treat every day like a job interview. People will remember your work, but they’ll remember your character more.
Set the bar high. Be someone others want to work with and clients trust for years to come.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
This career is so much more thank just doing hair. Yes, technique matters, keep practicing your cuts, your color, your foiling. But what will truly set you apart is your consistency, your professionalism, and the way you make people feel. Clients may seek you out for the service, but will stay because of the experience you offer.
