Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Rosenthal.
Jeremiah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved from California to Arizona in 2015 and met my now wife. A year later, as we were packing to move in together she mentioned that in New Jersey (where she was from) she used a moving box rental service for her previous move where she didn’t have to build boxes or break them down after and that it was good for the environment. She was disappointed there wasn’t such a service in Arizona, so after we got married, we decided to start one. In January 2019, we launched Green Bin.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We are only three months into our business and things have been going well, but there have certainly been struggles. It’s difficult for any new local business to be successful but especially when you have an entirely new concept, something that people aren’t looking for. We are solving a problem that people don’t yet realize they have and that’s not easy to do. We are grateful for the amazing community in Phoenix of both customers and other professionals who have embraced us and showed us tremendous support.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Green Bin story. Tell us more about the business.
We rent pre-assembled moving boxes for less than buying cardboard. Delivery and pick-up are included Valleywide. Our rental packages range from Studio/Dorm up to a four bedroom house and are available for 1-4 weeks. In the coming months, we’ll be servicing commercial moves as well.
We are most proud of our purpose. Green Bin exists to reduce the environmental impact of moving by offering a sustainable alternative to cardboard moving boxes. We do this by reusing each Green Bin 400+ times and then fully recycling them at the end of their life. Our packing paper is made of 100% post-consumer recycled material and our bins are sanitized with a non-toxic and biodegradable cleaner. “Green” is more than just our name. In addition to saving trees, we help plant trees here in the Valley with the help of the Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA). A portion of EVERY Green Bin rental is donated to the AZSA who uses it to plant trees in low-income communities in the Phoenix, AZ area.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We are trying to disrupt the moving industry because we believe the current status quo is wasteful and inconvenient (to say the least). We pride ourselves on being both eco-friendly and human-friendly. We hope that 5-10 years from now, we look back on cardboard moving boxes and tape the way we now view flip phones and dial-up internet, “How did we function like that for so long??”
