Meet JeréAlexandra of Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to JeréAlexandra .

Hi JeréAlexandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My creative journey started as a child. Arts & crafts every Monday night with my mother. We designed homes, room by room. Planned gardens, painted, colored, built a city, dressed up to put on concerts and plays. Supplies were always available to let creativity and imagination take over. I almost had no choice in becoming a creative adult.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
My creative journey has been a mix of bumpy and smooth. I majored in Entertainment Management & Business. An easy choice since my dream was to recreate the musical sounds I’d grown up hearing. It got bumpy with the unexpected birth of my oldest daughter. I got married and had 2 more children. Then homelessness, divorce, and relocation across the country. The focus was survival, not creativity. Once we settled in Arizona, I was able to create again. Paint has allowed me to express myself in a way I couldn’t do with music. The only issue I face now is running out of space to store my canvases.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to say I make a beautiful mess. I specialize in abstract art, acrylic on canvas. I don’t have a set style at the moment, so I’m best known for my ability to switch it up. I honestly don’t know what I will paint canvas to canvas. Each project is 100% my mood/emotions, the music I’m listening to, right then and there in real-time. I’m most proud that from 2022 until 2025, I will be a featured artist in the embedded exhibit “Sleeping With the Artist” at the Found: Re hotel downtown Phx. Since every piece is a little bit of me, it is an honor to have been accepted this way.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The covid-19 crisis forced me to look within. There was nothing outside of my bubble. I was able to spend time creating whatever I wanted again. I built my confidence to post my art and start my website. During that time, nobody else’s opinion mattered. I enjoyed staying healthy and sane while painting in the house with my children. That drastic shift in life took me back to the Monday nights I spent creating with my mother.
