Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Stirling.
Hi Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From the time I was a child, I struggled with chronic anger and depression. This state of being negatively affected my relationships and every other aspect of my life. When I sought help at 15 years old, doctors told me that my problem was “genetic,” “incurable,” and wrote me a prescription for Prozac. I took their advice and accepted their diagnosis for the next ten years. And yet…after 25 years of suffering, I decided that I had had ENOUGH; I simply couldn’t live the life I was living anymore! In that moment, I made the decision that I was going to heal. Moving forward, I stopped putting ‘limits’ on what I thought God could do for me. And it didn’t take very long before I started discovering real solutions that not only got me off of ALL medication, but led me down a path of discovery and true joy in my life!
Here’s a fact: There was a time when I did not believe that healing from depression was possible. To put it lightly…I was a ROYAL MESS!! And yet, I have been FREE of chronic depression and anger for almost 17 years now.
Here’s the truth: No matter how “bad” someone struggles with mental illness…permanent healing IS possible! Anyone CAN experience a life of joy! I know this to be true. However…
I guarantee that anyone struggling with depression will need mentorship and loving guidance along the way. I certainly did! Navigating chronic depression alone can be a lot like trying to climb a mountain alone with two broken legs!! But I also understand that many lack the resources or financial flexibility to fund or find “needed help.”
In an effort to bridge this gap, I started the Overcome Depression Podcast and Newsletter, both of which provide FREE information and encouragement to anyone ready to heal from depression. For as little as $22, a serious student may also purchase the Overcome Depression Workbook to further guide and inspire them on their healing journey. All of these resources can be accessed at overcomedepressionpodcast.com.
Additionally, I provide one-on-one sessions, including a FREE 20 minute “quick-start healing” session for all new newsletter subscribers. During this session, I take clients through an exercise to help them process and reprogram one “unpleasant” event from their present or past. Once learned, this tool can be used over and over again, allowing anyone to take control of their emotions and their life!
During a full session, clients have access to the arsenal of tools and resources I have learned and studied over the past 17 years, which I can cater to an individual’s needs.
In addition to helping people overcome depression, I am a grateful wife; full-time mother and educator of four boys; and joyful owner of five milking goats, a little black dog, four African frogs, and five chickens. My hobbies include continuous learning, deep conversations, board games, podcasting, teaching privately/performing trumpet with a volunteer organization (millennial.org), and serving as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It is my hope that my life and experience can provide healing and relief for the many who are now suffering! I specialize in a Christ-centered/Christian approach, but can adjust my language and approach to accommodate any number of different belief systems.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle with starting the Overcome Depression Podcast and program was my personal doubts about my qualifications. I wasn’t always a phenominal speaker. Additionally, I wondered if anyone would listen to me because I don’t have a certificate of any kind that shows that I’m a therapist or a doctor. Rather, my experience comes almost entirely from just that–my experience! And my greatest teacher has been God. Not everyone trusts or respects that kind of help. And yet, with all of the different scholastic and official modalities, medical interventions, and therapies available, people are still suffering from major mental health setbacks, many of them are on drugs to manage the pain, and most aren’t truly healing. Alternatively, the help and resources I provide really work! And that is why, after ten years of debating, I finally decided to share and utilize what I’ve learned to help give hope to this world and the people in it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been a highly-creative person, and most of how I live my life and how I teach is very “out-of-the-box.” But honestly, I feel like that is exactly what this world–which has been rather stagnant in its progress and affectiveness against depression and anxiety–needs! I specialize in sharing and teaching difficult mental-health subjects in a way that anyone can understand through the Overcome Depression Podcast. And as a mentor, I resist a “one fixes all” approach, but rather cater my sessions to each individual based on their personal needs and meet them “where they are at.” I literally have hundreds of tools that I can use to help my clients with nutrition, mental processing, education and awareness, and their connection to God.
For those who prefer the “self-help,” model, I created the Overcome Depression Workbook to accompany and supplement material in the Overcome Depression Podcast. Each page is vibrant and beautiful; truly a labor of love.
What am I most proud of? I beat the odds and overcame chronic depression. My goal: Create a world where overcoming mental illness is the norm, not the exception.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Ironically, despite loving parents and a very good upbringing, I spent most of my childhood feeling stressed and pessimistic. Chronic depression can do that, even to a child.
My favorite childhood memories revolved around Disneyland trips (about 3 of them), and Christmases. These were the two occassions where I recall feeling respite from depression; exciting snapshots that I still cherish to this day.
