Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Starrett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As an Arizona native, I have lived in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area most of my whole life. My family and I were actively involved in Jewish life and I participated in many different local Jewish organizations and youth groups throughout high school. I moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College Chicago and majored in Magazine Journalism. I loved the environment and big city life, but I felt like there was something missing.
After graduating and moving back home to Arizona, I quickly realized that the missing piece was my connection to my Jewish community. I became active in local organizations and began working for the Jewish News of Greater Phoenix. I worked at Jewish News for over seven years, working in many different roles from subscriptions and administrative to advertising and marketing.
When I left the newspaper, I decided to begin my own marketing and event agency, Jew PHX, which also has a strong social media and online blog presence. It has morphed into a lifestyle blog where I share different events happening in the Jewish community, recipes and book ideas for holiday celebrations, and so much more. I have also had the pleasure of working with numerous local Jewish organizations in helping plan, run and market their events.
Combining my passion of creating a strong, vibrant Jewish community with my career has been a true blessing!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have definitely learned a lot along the way, and I am lucky to have many professionals in the event and marketing industry that I can call on when I get stuck. As an entrepreneur and consultant, you quickly learn the importance of asking for help and outsourcing.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jew PHX story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in online and social media marketing and event planning and preparation for small businesses and nonprofits. I think what sets me apart from other consultants is my passion for my client’s work. I am lucky enough to get to pick the clients and projects I work on, and this gives me an advantage to knowing what has or has not worked in the past and focus on new ideas. I am proud to say that the clients I have worked with continue to use me for new projects and events, and I have built a great referral source from the work that I have done.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments come from my happy clients and hearing how great an event or marketing campaign went.
