Meet Jennifer Stalnaker of Lola the Eclectic in Avondale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Stalnaker.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi, I’m Jennifer and I am the owner and creator of Lola the Eclectic. Lola is all about offering unique, individually crafted items. As the artist behind my creations, I go out of my way to ensure my pieces have a certain quality and character. Currently, I am creating and selling a variety of eclectic jewelry and unique refinished furniture.

The story of Lola the Eclectic really begins in childhood. I’ve been very creative ever since I can remember. I spent countless hours as a child daydreaming, sketching, coloring, and creating. I’d draw characters and then name them and play their life stories out in my head. I’ve always had a vivid imagination and an innate ability to see things come together.

My years of experience as a full-time graphic designer have undoubtedly played a huge role in the creation of my pieces. In fact, I typically start with sketches and mock-ups as one of my first steps when beginning a new project. It’s very natural for me to apply the principles and disciplines I have developed throughout my career. Lola the Eclectic was really born out of my desire to share my creations with others and express myself through a medium other than graphic design.

When it came to naming my business, I wanted to choose something that really represented who I am as an artist and what my business offers to its buyers. An eclectic pulls inspiration from an array of styles and sources, and that’s exactly what I do when creating my pieces. My grandmother, Lola, was a strong, independent woman who overcame much adversity in her life. I am honoring her and continuing that legacy. As a young woman living with multiple sclerosis, I too have had to deal with many challenging moments in the last several years. Even though life has thrown me a curve ball, MS does not define me, and I strive to live my best life. Starting Lola the Eclectic and chasing after my goals of being a successful artist and business owner is allowing me to do that.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m just getting started, but so far I’ve had success and some very rewarding experiences and opportunities! My biggest hurdle has been getting my name out there on social media and establishing an online presence. But, it’s been a welcomed challenge and I look forward to what’s to come!

Lola the Eclectic offers unique, one-of-kind items. I specialize in individually crafted jewelry and refinished furniture. As Lola grows, my endeavors are to expand to include more handcrafted items! Like myself, my sisters are creatives and we have plans to work together to offer crocheted items and unique fashion pieces you won’t find anywhere else!

I am most proud of the positive feedback I have received and my own drive to pursue starting Lola the Eclectic! I was making jewelry and refurbishing furniture for myself, friends and family with no particular inclination to sell my items but had such a great response, that I decided to start offering my unique items to others. It is very rewarding to see the items I have created being enjoyed by others.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as being truly happy doing what you love and grabbing life by the horns and hanging on for the ride. Things might not always be easy, but having the drive and ambition and the support of like-minded individuals is key.
