Meet Jennifer and Khasidy Keys of Sugar Queen “The Cake Poet” in Buckey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer and Khasidy Keys.

Jennifer and Khasidy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started in December 2014 when I decided to make some chocolate covered strawberries for friends and family as a gift. Just really doing something that wasn’t so costly since I wanted to include everyone close to me and make them a gift. I made over four dozen of them and posted them on my Facebook page to show what I had created and it went from there. I started receiving a request to make some for others. at first, it was something I was having fun doing and then after over several requests, I decided that I could turn it into a second form of income and start charging for it. That was the first start up of my creative business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been smooth sailing. I have had plenty of bumps in the road! From forgotten orders to messed up orders, too late deliveries. The list goes on and on. I have given up multiple times and started back multiple times due to lack of being organized and lack of business knowledge but there is nothing about it that I would change. The bumpy roads are what made me the business women that I am today.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business name is Sugar Queen The Cake poet. I specialize in custom made cakes. wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc.. My business is known for making and creating beautiful cake art that you can eat. We are also known for making the best tasting gourmet cupcakes of any flavor. What sets my business apart from all others is that I have one of the youngest business partners in the state of Arizona. My daughter, Khasidy Keys is a six year old award winning pastry chef that I have included in my business venture with me September 2019. That is something I am proud to say that makes us very unique.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up my parents have always told me that I was a very creative, friendly, kind hearted individual. I have always been the type to go out of my way to help others and I have carried that trait on into my adulthood.
