Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Hoeprich.
Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had worked in corporate America for ten years when I was surprised to find myself pregnant with my son in 2004. I experienced a soul awakening and chose to birth him out of the hospital with a midwife. I experienced an epiphany during his birth when I realized I was here to serve women through a higher calling.
I completed doula certification when he was just a few months old and began serving women as a handmaiden, while they birthed. Much of my job was focused on assisting the mamas to advocate for themselves in a system that places us on a one-size-fits-all assembly line of hospital protocols. I witnessed mamas being ignored and talked down to, during a most sacred and vulnerable experience. While helping the mamas use their assertive voice, I also found mine.
I completed a 3-year Midwifery apprenticeship, while working full time and attending births as a doula, and took a leap of faith, starting my own home birth Midwifery practice, in 2011.
Through the process of my own natural birth and then supporting other mamas to create a space of holy ground on which to birth, from a place of power, I witnessed transformation on the highest levels, physical, mental, and spiritual, and discovered the ecstasy of sisterhood and the truest power and autonomy of women.
So, in 2013, I co-created Magical Mama Retreat, with Blue Russ, a health coach, and friend. It started with one retreat, where we had 11 women in attendance, and has evolved into monthly gatherings of around 50 women where we consciously generate a supportive, empowering, learning & teaching sisterhood, to nourish our minds, bodies, and spirits, thereby allowing us to make our grandest individual and collective contribution to ourselves, our families, our communities, and the world.
I went on to obtain certification as a Hypnotherapist and Meditation Teacher, and I am also now a graduate of the Yogini Priestess Path.
My greatest joy, besides mothering my baby daughter and teen son, is witnessing mothers claim their power. That is truly what will save the world.
I am dedicated to the expansion of consciousness, the rediscovery of the fire within, and to witness the sacred birth of newfound confidence, authenticity, sisterhood, and power for mamas in the Valley.
Over the past 14 years, I have been blessed to hold space for the deepest growth and expansion for over 1,000 mothers through birth work, Magical Mama Circles and retreats, group classes, and private sessions.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a road filled with personal growth and expansion, so definitely not smooth! I think the biggest struggle for myself has been comparing myself to others. Especially in this age of social media, and the highlight reel that we see presented as “real life,” I struggle to feel like I am doing “enough,” like I am “enough.” Comparing myself to the conglomeration of all of these highlight reels, when it comes to mothering, business growth, beauty, adventure, significance… It’s such a trap. I know this to be true, and yet it’s still present for me. I’m learning to give myself grace, as I show up authentic to my sister circles. Sometimes I’m haggard; sometimes I’ve just been in a fight with my man; sometimes I just don’t have any space to hold, and I have to ask for help. This brings me down to earth and helps me heal. As we witness authenticity and the rawness of motherhood, it helps us all heal.
Please tell us about Magical Mamas and Moxie Midwifery.
Moxie Midwifery is a home birth practice, where individual autonomy is prioritized, and mothers are seen as queens of their queendom. My favorite thing in the world is seeing a woman claim her power. The birth process is an initiation, and it has the potential to be a catalyzing event in the lifetime of a mother. If she is supported, trusted, feels safe and protected, and if the space is held exquisitely and with reverence, she will go into an altered state. In this state, she has access to her subconscious and the ability to heal herself of old wounds. If she is loved, truly loved, through this experience, regardless of how or where she births, she will come out the other side empowered. An empowered mother is a rare gem these days. And that empowerment will make all the difference for her forward lineage. I do not pretend that I know more than the woman does, about what is best for her and her baby. I see myself as a guide, someone who can share expertise and make recommendations, someone who has the medical knowledge to monitor the health of mother and baby and to report any concerns. I see the parents as the decision-makers, ultimately, and the captains of the ship. I do think this is a unique approach, and it is something I am proud of.
Magical Mamas is unique to Phoenix. We are a mama group who meet monthly as well as a “mystery school,” in that we explore esoteric themes and modules related to the Divine Feminine, such as herbal medicine-making, astrology for mamas, goddess archetypes, etc., throughout the year. We offer free New Moon Manifesting Rituals on Facebook Live, in our “Magical Mamas” facebook group, to help mamas to begin cycling up with the moon. Our public events are open to anyone who self-identifies as a mother, and we welcome babies who are not yet mobile, into our circle. We are known for instigating radical self-care in mothers (a rare and beautiful thing!) and for making the “woo” accessible. Deep down, we all have a wisdom in our bones linked to the medicine the Divine Feminine has to offer. Magical Mamas creates a safe and sacred space to explore this, to let our guard down, and to develop deep sisterhood.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Goodness, I would not change one thing. I couldn’t have grown in the ways I grew without every moment of it all. I am grateful for the stumbling.
