Meet Jennifer Clift of Boxing Arizona in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Clift.

Jennifer, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Approximately 26 years ago, I met my mentor, Paavo Ketonen. He was a world champion wrestler from the 1940’s era. Mr. Ketonen was from Finland originally. He was a boxing trainer and taught me the boxing business. I fell in love with the sport.

Being a female in the industry was very challenging at times. I was able to work with professionals and amateurs from all over the world, including Morocco. I have been involved in management, promotion and training of boxers of all levels. I have met Evander Holyfield, Floyd Mayweather, Don King, Ray “Boom Boom”ancini… and the list goes on.

My favorite boxer of all time is Joe Louis. I am currently an official for USA Boxing. I am also the only female official in the state for USA Boxing. This is the organization who governs boxing in the Olympics. Known Boxing Arizona which is the largest source of boxing news and information in Arizona. I work as a reporter and commentator for boxing as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The largest obstacle on the path I chose was being a female in a male-dominated sport.

Please tell us about your work.
Boxing Arizona was started in 2014 as a small online newsgroup. Over the years, it has grown to the #1 source for news and information in the sports of boxing. We have become a well-known brand. We have thousands of members and followers. In 2020, Boxing Arizona will be holding its first invitational boxing tournament. We have annual awards “Boxing Arizona” awards, which honors the best in the sport for boxers, trainers, gyms… etc.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define my success by how the public responds positively to the brand. Also, there is a huge demand and dependency for what I have begun on my own with Boxing Arizona.

I won’t be successful if not for my Mother, Regina Jaworski, who passed away on August 1, 2017. It is because of her, I am able to believe that a woman can do anything she puts her mind to, even in a male-dominated sport like boxing. My mother led by example and for that, I am most grateful!
