Meet Jennifer Bi

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Bi.

Jennifer Bi

Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started photography as a hobby because I was interested in doing something that I could do freely and where I was able to express myself without having any restrictions. I started it out in 2013, then I quit in 2014, and then I started again in 2015.

I had a lot of people who gave me the chance to take photos for them and allowed me to use my creativity when editing the photos. I got to where I am today by having the chance to work with a lot of different people who have different visions. I also have others who have given me feedback on how to continually improve my editing and give me chances to try new things.

I have had many supporters who encouraged me to continue doing photography when I wanted to give up. I have had many supporters who would ask me to fulfill their visions and end up loving every bit of what I have done for them. I would not be so successful if it was not for the people who have supported me and guided me every step of the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Photography has not been a smooth road for me at all.

The struggles I experience are finding clients who will pay for the service I provide. I have had to lower prices just so I can assist a client without losing business. Sometimes I feel like I am not not good enough with my work and that is why I do not have clients that come to me.

Sometimes I feel like an imposter because of my work. Other struggles with photography I experience are a lot of how others view my work and how sometimes I feel like my work is not good enough.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer with many niches. I enjoy doing a wide range of photography which can be astrophotography to nature to boudoir, shibari, family portraits, couples, engagement photos, weddings, pet photos, senior photos, etc.

My favorite kinds of photography are family portraits, couples, engagements, and weddings. Those are my favorites because of the bonds I see between people and the chemistry between a couple. A lot of people know my photography for the colors and for the creative shots that I do.

I am proud of how I stuck through my photography and did not give up on it when I felt like I was not good at what I did. What sets me apart from others is the natural looks I leave on my photos and how I make the colors pop.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Anyone who is starting out on photography, do not give up no matter how many clients you have. Keep doing what you are doing because it will build up, and you will make it out there. The field is saturated, but that does not mean there is not enough room for you.

There is plenty of room for everyone out there. I wish I knew how I could not let my own insecurities stop me from stopping and starting. It is an ongoing battle for me to this day, but I know that there are a lot of people out there who are very supportive of me and will help in any way.
