Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Armer.
Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Ahwatukee in early 2015 when I met my now-husband, Matt Armer. I loved getting involved in the community and had the opportunity to meet a lot of our community members when we started our HVAC company. The more I was getting involved. My husband brought me the idea of just starting our own Non-profit. I loved the idea and I knew I wanted it to benefit those families that have children with extreme medical needs. About ten years ago, one of my close friends’ daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I could see the fight the whole family was taking on, and I wanted to help ease the burdens for any other families taking on that fight. Since starting, we have helped countless families easing their financial burdens. Whether it is buying stuff the hospital needs, paying their rent that month, or raising funds to send a family to a different country to receive the life saving medical treatment for their infant.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road per say. It is always challenging starting a brand new non-profit when there are so many great ones that already exist. COVID-19 of course, has really put a damper on our fundraising events. However, starting our non-profit thrift store and having the community rally behind us has been a huge help, alongside being able to utilize social media platforms. Creating our Armer Foundation Buying for Charity Facebook page has been extremely helpful in posting items that have been donated.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our non-profit Armer Foundation for Kids specializes in helping families that have children with extreme medical needs. We want to ease the financial burdens of those family members so they can focus on their children. No child should have to see their families worry financially while fighting for their lives. Since COVID-19, we have started a non-profit thrift store. All the items we sell have been donated by our generous community members. Selling these items is our main source of fundraising, and it is going all to the families in need. You can visit our location, 9830 S. 51st St. Ste, A128 Phoenix, AZ 85044. We appreciate any volunteers, and you can fill out the contact section on our website www.armerfoundation.org.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a military dependent, so I had to learn had to adapt to new situations at a young age. I was always a talker and would talk to anyone who would listen. I loved to read, help take care of my little brothers, bake, cook, and I was a nanny to a family that was deployed overseas.
