Meet Jen Krug of helloGorgeous Salon in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Krug.

Jen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Moved to AZ via New York and South Carolina about 9 years ago, worked at a few salons around the valley and set out on a path to open helloGorgeous! March of 2014, I opened the doors to helloGorgeous where all people could come and get Gorgeous, feel comfortable and at home amongst friends.

I have a huge passion for hair and making people feel good about themselves! I educate myself daily in my career taking classes, learning from other stylists, growing my skill set and educating others.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t an easy road, lots of sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears. Building a business is never easy but I kept my eye on the prize and the passion for my work. I’ve never had a day I didn’t want to work. One of the hardest challenges I’ve faced is balancing work and personal life. It’s easy to clock in and out based on what your schedule says from an employer but when you’re self-employed the clock never stops. So I would say time management and learning when to close down my mind to work has been my biggest struggle.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
At helloGorgeous, we specialize in everything hair. Cuts, color, extensions and styling both every day and for special occasions! I do a lot of vivid and fashion colors as well as specializing in blondes! As a company, I am most proud that so many of my clients refer their friends and families and have so much trust!

I treat every single person in my chair as a friend I believe this sets me apart from others. I tell all my clients “teamwork makes the dream work”! They know together we will create the best hair they can have!

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small town! Honestly, I never dreamed of becoming a hairstylist. I was a free spirit, doing a lot of different things and always experimenting! We traveled a lot and I loved and still do love that! Played sports, made jewelry, always had an entrepreneurial mind with lemonade and candy stands on the side of the road at a young age
