Meet Jen Cho of Foodie Hand in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Cho.

Jen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always taken pictures of my food, back when people were still using digital cameras versus their cell phones. Once Instagram became a thing, my friends would always tell me to make a food account but I didn’t want to for a variety of reasons (didn’t want to deal with another account, the foodie grams seemed too saturated, etc).

When I moved to Arizona a couple of years ago, I decided to finally make an account without telling anyone at first. The Arizona food scene was growing quickly and since I was new to the state with no friends or family, it gave me a creative outlet when I wasn’t working.

My account slowly began to grow organically and I met other like-minded people through it. Now I’m posting regularly, getting invited to events, and finally, I have started telling friends and family about my foodie Instagram!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily this is just a passion of mine, so there are never pressures to keep up with my page. It did seem difficult in the beginning to get noticed and grow, but having posts saved up and utilizing Instagram stories has helped my account grow steadily over the past few months.

Please tell us about your work.
Although the Arizona foodie pages aren’t as saturated as they are in California or New York, there’s still a lot of us! So I wanted to make my page a bit more unique by always having the images be of me holding the food. That’s how I came up with the simple, but the direct name of “Foodie Hand.” It’s my different way of showcasing the food so it isn’t always on a table or a plate.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is constantly having a delicious home cooked Korean food at home. Sadly I don’t cook as much or as well as my mom, but us as a family always eating dinner together is a fond memory.
