Meet Jeff Rocx of Tucson Arizona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Rocx.

Hi Jeff, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been playing guitar on and off since 1968. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and have attended over 300 rock concerts mostly Winterland and the Oakland Colosseum. I moved in 2013 to Tucson so that my wife could be close to her parents and their golden years. They have since passed on. I wasn’t satisfied with the open mic scene here in Tucson so I decided to start my own event. It started off as a monthly event at the Rockabilly Grill. I’m on my third owner and now the place is called the Big Bad Wolf. In addition to weekly open mic events at the big Bad Wolf I also do weekly events at the Frozen Cactus. I have showcased ~300 bands and artists at my events giving many of them their stage debut. I’ve been in a band called WROUGHT IRON, an original desert rock band. I took a year long break from the band, but I’ll be returning as a guest artist soon. I helped write many of their songs, there’s a lot of the material available on iTunes and Spotify. My wife, Cindy is an acrylic artist, and she puts on paint and sip parties.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had many health challenges since moving to Tucson in 2013. As a result, I am slowing down.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I was a Silicon Valley Privateer. Most famous for being the #1 Supplier to PALM COMPUTING. Did very well financially in a short period of time at the age of 45. I retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and sold Timeshares and real estate. 2008 ruined me financially and led to my eventual divorce of my 2nd marriage of 22 years. Now I am well known in the Tucson Rock Music scene.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Success is preparation meeting opportunity. Luck is winning the lottery. Hard work helps. I was successful in the Silicon Valley because my company was small and I could make things happen faster than my larger competitors.
