Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Wilkinson.
Jay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in New Mexico, which makes me a unique creature. I moved to Kentucky and went to my local high school, Henderson County High. One of my favorite instructors introduces me to a whole other world of design. After graduation, I went to community college to study Graphic Design and Fine Arts. I ended up moving to The Art Institute of Phoenix to pursue Fashion Marketing and Management in a BA. I have been working with amazing artists, musicians, and designers; it’s been lit! I want to share my creativity and inspirations with everyone! But most importantly, staying true to yourself. Being a transgender in the community taught me to never give up on your dreams, and keep pushing! Know your slime. Oooey goooey.
Has it been a smooth road?
Throughout my journey, I want to say my identity. Pushing myself to reach my goals wasn’t a big issue. But this world we live in, identity is a major. I’m a transgender (female to male) model and artist wanting to put my name out there and inspire others to never give up and be you all the way. Some people can’t deal with seeing someone being “different” but I like to call it unique and thrive to the top. To me, I’m caring less what people think of me. At least they can’t get me off their minds. Lol!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I market myself. Giving the best of my services. I’m a transgender model, illustrator, and creative artists. Let’s just say a unicorn! I love to work around fashion and music. Which is most of my clients. I keep an open mindset and never narrow myself down to one thing. One day I can be fashion styling and the next day creating covert art for a music artist. I’m known for myself, creating work that I’m good at and helping hand for others. I’m known for my crazy neon green signature and slime! Most proud of my company is where I’m at today. I’m thankful to be working with creative people that I’m most close to and having many opportunities to work with the fashion and music industry.
I set myself apart by being myself. No one can’t be you unless you’re trying to be like someone else. My vibe, aroma, and my art represents me. Check it!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that our city is growing in the art district. We definitely came a long way since I been living here for the past three years. The least I like about the city is that the fashion industry here narrows its self down to one category. There isn’t any recognizing brands into streetwear, athletic wear or etc.
