Meet Jason Mansfield of Polar Bear’s Pop Culture Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Mansfield. 

Jason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been into action figures and comic books and growing up in the 1980’s I was exposed to some of the best toy lines and comic books ever created. 

As I became an adult, I found myself buying toys and comic books from my childhood. To help feed my collecting I would buy large lots of toys or comic books and keep what I wanted and sold the rest at a profit. This was around 2004 and eBay was fairly new, but I was able to use that platform to reach a larger audience. I opened an eBay store shortly after and did that for a few years before getting out of collecting for a while. Around 2013 I got into buying and selling again with my plan to one day open my own shop. 

In 2020, I finally decided to take the leap and open my own collectible store, Polar Bear’s Pop Culture Shop along with James and Tianne whom I had met through the collector community. I decided to open my own store with my wife’s blessing and support.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although we had built up a good following it was still a struggle to get new customers that didn’t know we existed. The local collector community has been great and we have met some awesome people that continue to help us build and grow. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others? 

I felt there was a need for another pop culture/collectible store in the valley. It was important that we implemented things we liked when we shopped at other stores that are in the same market as us. We also wanted to strive to do things the other shops didn’t do. 

We strive for the best customer service in the business as well as reasonable pricing of our products. We also pride ourselves on not only selling our product to the collector community but also being a big part of that community. We strive to build our brand while helping build a strong collector community in Arizona. 

If you are a collector in the community that is learning about us for the first time I would recommend coming in and checking the shop out. We carry a wide variety of action figures, toys, comic books, cards, and all kind of pop-culture-related items. 

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson we have learned is to always be thinking about what is next. We want to continue to build the brand and continue to incorporate new ideas so that we can continue to be a destination for years to come in the collecting community.
