Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Milsap.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It started with my brother. He actually was the one who initiated the business in Texas. When I went to visit him, we discussed expanding to Arizona. Shortly after, he realized that he was not passionate in the business and gave it to me. I was very invested in this business and took the opportunity to mold it into my own vision. I eventually started looking up how to make candles and realized how easy it was and added that to my collection.
It first started off as just oil based cologne and perfume. It is now soy scented candles and oil based perfume/cologne. I pride myself on having quality products. I make all the scented candles by hand and have all the oils manufactured. I want my customers to have only the best, but in the most cost-effective way. Now I am learning how to promote and market my business to reach other areas and build that loyal customer base.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I started doing my business my Junior/Senior year of college. I was also getting involved with my sorority Lambda Sigma Gamma sorority, Inc. So it was difficult juggling 18 credit hours, a sorority, a job, and my business. On top of that, since I make all the candles myself and put all the oils in it’s packaging myself, it was A LOT of time and effort made along with hundreds of dollars investing in my business as well
I love and believe that my business will be successful, but I may have to fail a few times to get it there, and that’s totally okay. In the beginning, I went big too fast. Started investing in a website, logo, business cards, social media promotion, all that good stuff, but I was missing the key component. Costumers! Without costumers, my business is nothing, so I took a break and went back to the drawing board to see what I could do to bring in more people.
Reminiscenr Fragrant – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a candle and fragrance company. At the moment I specialize in making soy scented candles, and oil-based perfume/cologne that is very similar to the name brand, but way more cost effective. I am proud of how much it has grown. When it first started, it was just a few scents of cologne and some perfume.
Now, I have expanded to candles, and eventually will be expanding to lotion, bath bombs and more! What sets me apart from others is that I want to give back to the community. I want to be able to have people smell good, have their homes smell good and give back. I don’t think this for the money, I do it because I love it. I don’t want to be a big corporation, I eventually want to be a cute little shop that people love to come to.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success by being happy. I have goals that I want to reach for my business and each time I reach my goal I just feel satisfied and successful. Not all success is a big success. Sometimes I have a goal of making five sales today, and for me that’s amazing!
Then the next week I challenge myself. Each time is improving! My biggest goal is owning my shop and keeping it open! Once I am able to achieve that, I will feel that I completed my ultimate goal.
