Meet Jardy Santiago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jardy Santiago.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jardy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m an online dance teacher who teaches a form called “House Dance.” It’s a footwork-based form that many people compare to tap dance and salsa, and it was created in New York City around the late 80s. I’ve been dancing “House” since 2000. In 2009, I began releasing free online dance tutorials on YouTube. They picked up a lot of traction, and I slowly built my reputation from there. In 2014, after almost five years of consistently releasing free videos, I began offering online classes for a monthly subscription. I also released a product that I called the “Footwork Style Mastery Course“ – a two-hour course that gave step-by-step instructions on how to freestyle (improvise) in house dance. It took me six months of brainstorming and testing to come up with the product. Using the Footwork Style Mastery Course as a base, I restructured my business in 2018. I now call it an “Online Course,” teaching in a similar fashion to an actual school. It’s 2020 now, and I’ve released over 1,500 instructional videos since 2009. It’s the most extensive library of tutorials in any dance form.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was totally paved smooth from the start. The issues have always been with the driver (me, lol). As an artist first and business person a distant second, the struggles I’ve had have always centered around my motivation. Overall, I love what I do, so I always find a way to keep going.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My company teaches people how to dance from the comfort of their own home. Now other introverts like myself can get in on the fun, too, haha. What makes this company special is that it’s taught like an actual school, complete with a weekly curriculum, homework, and it’s even split into two semesters. Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe luck had nearly everything to do with my success. When I first started releasing free tutorials in 2009, it was exactly what the world was searching for at the time. It was unheard of for an experienced teacher to be giving out free tutorials back then, so I immediately stood out from the crowd. After that, all I needed to do was stay consistent.
