Meet Janine Hernandez of Purpose Driven Initiative in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janine Hernandez.

Janine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
PDI got started March 2015. I always wanted to publish a book but knew that I didn’t want to go through a traditional publisher so I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and opened up my own publishing company. I started small and eventually hosted our first women empowerment event. I have been in business now 3 years and it has taken a lot of learning, mistakes, long hours staying up in the middle of the night but it was all well worth it. Right now, I focus on book publishing consulting, I assist other women publish their books, I am also working on releasing my 2nd book. I also do motivational speaking and have been working behind the scenes to get my second business “JJ and Sons Tea Company” launched this fall.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I started with $0 investment money in my pocket, no real business plan and no idea of what I was doing. But, I found like minded people and mentors that were already successful and was able to grow my business and revenue. I moved across the country so, I had to start completely over in a new market but it was all well worth it.

Please tell us about Purpose Driven Initiatives LLC.
Purpose Driven Initiatives focuses on book publishing and motivational speaking. It’s important to me to know that I can help someone else get their ideas, thoughts and passions on paper in front of the world. I am most proud that I can be a tole model to many women and kids but most importantly to my son. I want to teach him that any dreams he has he can defenitly attain them. All he has to do is feel the fear but go for it anyways! I think I set myself apart from others in that I just shine bright and when you interact with me I will motivate you but also hold you accountable. I am not in competition with anyone and truly want to see everyone succeed.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Create a business plan before I actually opened the business. I didn’t really have a plan at first, but in learning about business that all came with time and worked out the way it was supposed to.
