Meet Janine Faux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janine Faux.

Hi Janine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
On November 1st of 2022, I opened Be. Counseling LLC a small private practice in the Biltmore area.

I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, I searched for a career where my passion for helping people and my creative mind could work together. I did not set out to be a therapist. Instead, I pursued my interests, had adventures, and learned about people and places, not knowing where I was going to end up, but trusting that one day it would all make sense. Now it does.

I have a strong foundation in knowing that I was lucky to be raised in a large family that provided me with a loving and supportive environment. Helping me to understand that life’s struggles can feel easier when you have love, support, and understanding. I believe that with the privilege of education and support comes the responsibility to help others have the same. I am beyond grateful that all roads led me here.

Regarding formal education, I have BA in Education, an MA in Art and Experiential Education, and an MS in Community Counseling. I am trained in yoga and trauma-sensitive yoga. I have learned about the nonprofit and forprofit sector by working in various capacities in both arenas.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Arizona, trained in EMDR, and have been in practice for over a decade. My Clinical focus has been in working with Adults and Teens treating all types of Trauma and Eating disorders.

I view my work as an art form, I combine clinical knowledge and training with my natural abilities and understanding of people and perspective and wrap it all up in love and acceptance.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest challenge in starting my own practice has been finding a way to balance life and business, I joke with friends that starting my own business is like having a fourth child! I already have three.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the sole owner and provider at Be. Counseling. I provide therapy to adults and teens.

Therapy focus:

I address all types of trauma using EMDR therapy, I was trained in 2016 and will be fully certified this year. For the past 2/3 years, I have worked with medical providers providing support throughout the pandemic. In addition, I spend a portion of my graduate work interning in Eating Disorder treatment and therefore work with many eating-disordered Clients helping people navigate the process of recovery.

I view all of my clients and their stories through a lens of adaptation; I believe humans adapt to survive; physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Once we can see human behavior in this way, we can remove judgment and shame. Then, real change can happen. This perspective allows clients to feel supported and understood. When Clients walk into my office they are walking into a space where they can relax, and feel accepted, heard, and supported. Therapy often becomes a cornerstone of my Client’s overall health. It is so amazing to watch people set goals to Be. Whatever they want or need to be in life.

My business name is based on the concept that we can Be. whatever we want or need to be. I encourage my clients to go big with their goals. We work together to get them where they want to Be.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have collected a large group of supportive people and professionals from past work experiences. I have a close group of friends/therapists/entrepreneurs, We meet weekly are can be available any time for support. We supported each other through the establishment of our own businesses. We have common goals; we help keep each other accountable and knowledgeable in our field. We network and can provide our clients with competent referrals providing a real safety net for support which provides extra support for our clients.

My advice for anyone looking to start their own business would be, to make strong friendships and connections in their current place of work or school. These can be your people!
